Associated Ambulance is currently accepting expressions of interest for Emergency Medical Responders (EMR's) to work in and support our rural communities across Alberta. EMR's are patient advocates who effectively communicate and interact with community healthcare partners and allied healthcare professionals to ensure safe and skillful patient care and transportation.

This position will work out of any of our stations in the 24 rural community locations we support across Alberta. Primary focus will be to work out of our North Central Region (Athabasca, Boyle, Lac la Biche and Vilna Stations).

Position Information & Hours of Work:


  • IFT Orientation dates: September 23-27
  • Orientation: October 21- October 25
  • Recognition of previous EMS-EMR experience accepted
  • Shift schedules 24-hour core/flex and 12 hour-assembled
  • Weekend premium pay
  • both day and night shifts including weekends
  • tours are a 4 on/4 off rotation


Description:

  • Assess emergency scenes and patients
  • Safely operate Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles, respond to medical and traumatic emergencies as well as patient IFT (inter-facility transport) transfers.
  • Transport ill and/or injured patients from emergency scenes or between facilities
  • Maintain and adhere to all professional standards, MCP's (medical control protocols), standard operating procedures, company policies and directives set forth.
  • Provide medical treatments only within the EMR scope
  • Prepare and complete required documentation including patient care reports
  • Maintain professionalism and always act in a manner that upholds the utmost patient care
  • Work collaboratively with the patient, their healthcare team of professionals, colleagues, and patient family members
  • Consult with other healthcare providers when necessary
  • Uphold the dignity, safety, privacy, confidentiality of the patient, their family members, colleagues, and the employer
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of the EMS vehicles, equipment, and ambulance bays as well as maintain the stock of supplies and equipment available in the units.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Emergency Medical Responder and active registration with Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP) as an EMR
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP).
  • Must hold a valid Class 4 Alberta Operator's license with an abstract indicating no serious traffic safety violations - abstract will be requested
  • Completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test taken no more than six months prior to the application date.
  • Must be available for orientation and mentorship during dates offered
  • Must be available to work a variety of shifts potentially on short notice

Preferred: Minimum 1 year experience working as a posted designation in EMS frontline and/or relevant healthcare field.


EMR's spend a lot of time standing, reaching, walking, crouching, and bending during their shifts. They are required to lift and transport patients and equipment. At times, they may be in awkward positions while providing assessment and care to ill and injured patients. They may be exposed to chemicals, bodily fluids, needle sticks, moving traffic, weather conditions, and other potential safety risks while on the job.
