The Opportunity:

We are seeking Full Time passionate individuals, located in Alberta and area, who are compassion and have the capacity to provide 24 hours per day, 7 days per week care for children and youth.


We are seeking energetic individuals who have or are willing to complete a SAFE ASSESSMENT and PRIDE Pre-Service training as required by the Government of Alberta licensing to provide compassionate foster care.


Independent Contractors provide structured care within their home, you are pivotal role in guiding children and youth towards family reunification.

A day in the life of an Independent Contractor - Care Family:

  • Provide input and support with child or youth assessment
  • Daily review/documentation (written reports outlining assessment progress and regular observational notes, daily logs and/or reports)
  • Regular consultation and collaboration with supervisor and case team
  • Create, design, and support age-appropriate daily activities
  • Initiate, organize, monitors, and actively participate in group activities (special outings, concerts, sports, dances, party games, crafts, camping, music, etc.) as part of treatment plan
  • Teach, support, and assist child or youth in acquiring appropriate skills relating to daily chores, routines, and personal hygiene
  • Advocate and actively build a therapeutic relationship with youth (and family) through interactive play, activities, and personal interaction
  • Maximizing participation/inclusion at home and in the community;
  • Modelling socially-appropriate behaviours
  • Provide opportunities for youth to focus on developing new skills based on their needs
  • Support youth through crisis utilizing Therapeutic Crisis Interventions (TCI)
  • Maintain therapeutic approach to behaviour support and explain behavioural expectations, outcomes, and impacts to youth

What You Bring:


  • Must be proficient in the English language, with the ability to comprehend instructions and communicate in a clear and logical manner
  • An abundance of love to give and an overwhelming compassion to impact a child's life forever
  • Licensed to provide foster care for a child or youth in Alberta
  • Willing to provide foster care for a child/youth inside your own home between the ages of 0 - 17 years old
  • Knowledge of mental wellness practices and the processes/procedures involved in providing effective home care
  • Build and maintain cooperative and constructive relationships by recognizing and understanding emotions and handling situations with empathy
  • Experience providing direct care to youth with developmental disabilities and/or mental health concerns
  • Experience with complex children and youth with high behavioural needs and significant trauma
  • Knowledge of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention de-escalation techniques
  • Indigenous families are encouraged to apply

Minimum Base Level Requirements:

  • Physical wellness and mental health awareness to handle care plan daily exercise routine
  • High capacity for managing stressful situations
  • All persons 18 years and older living in the home must provide:
    • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check obtained within the last 6 months
    • Intervention Record Check obtained from Children Services within the last 6 months
    • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License
    • Alberta 10-year Driver's Abstract (10 years driving experience is not required)
    • Valid Standard First Aid with CPR Level C + AED (two day in person training completed)
  • Your own reliable four door vehicle to transport clients in
  • Adequate level of home insurance
  • You are financially stable, over the age of 21, and legally authorized to work in Canada
  • You are not providing any other services (forms of care) for other agencies
  • Able to provide child or youth with a safe, comfortable, and suitably furnished bedroom within your home
  • Alberta auto insurance with $2-million liability coverage
  • Alberta Residential or tenants insurance with $1 Million Liability coverage
