The Student Services department's role in student success is to create a culture and environment that unleashes the full potential of all the students at SAIT. The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Student Development and Counselling, the Educational Counsellor I is part of the SAIT Academic Faculty Association working 7.25 hours per day, 5 days per week. Counsellors provide a variety of services to SAIT students including personal counselling, crisis counselling, psycho-educational workshops and mental health training. Counsellors provide consultation to the SAIT community and offer professional development sessions. This position involves a particular specialization in crisis management and support as well as critical incident debriefing.

The Role

    • Provides academic, career, personal and crisis counselling to SAIT students
    • Conducts risk assessment, crisis incident intervention and referral, on an as-needed basis, as part of SAIT's professional
    • Provides consultation related to crisis management to team members and the SAIT community as needed
    • Designs and delivers psycho-educational workshops, presentations, and outreach programs that enhance student success
    • Provides advisement and direction for SAIT faculty and staff on student issues involving psychological or mental health difficulties
    • Liaises with faculties, departments and other student services regarding the provision of programs, workshops and services that enhance student success
    • Leadership in the provision of critical incident support for the campus and follow up support to affected communities and individuals
    • Provides assessment and referral within SAIT and to community resources as appropriate and performs other case management related duties as required

Qualifications & Experience

    • Minimum
    • Master's degree in Educational Psychology or a related field with additional career or learning development training or experience
    • Active Registration as a Psychologist in the province of Alberta with relevant liability insurance or equivalent designation
