The Clinical Support Services Portfolio within the School of Health & Public Safety has a need for an energetic and resourceful individual with great organizational skills to provide instruction in the Medical Laboratory Technology and Medical Laboratory Assistant programs. We are currently looking for an experienced registered Medical Laboratory Technologist. The position will be located on the SAIT main campus on 16th Avenue and report to the Academic Chair of Clinical Support Services. The Role

    • Class Contact
    • Facilitate and supervise students' learning in classes, laboratories, simulation, and or practicum through effective action-based lessons, activities and assessments
    • Make use of any and all available resources, methods, techniques and strategies to ensure student success.
    • Teach in both in person and online environments

    • Class Management
    • Maintain currency and relevance of course material, laboratory manuals and other teaching resources with current developments in his/her/their subject matter.
    • Provide ongoing support, guidance and feedback to students in relation to their progress, achievement, professional standards and general welfare.
    • Manage class and laboratory environments to ensure a safe, healthy and positive student learning experience.
    • Maintain records for the purposes of grading and tracking attendance in all classes.
    • Prepare laboratory preps and supply lists for Educational Technologists
    • Evaluate and maintain student progress and retention through assessment of evaluations, and supervision
    • Promote professionalism and coach students
    • Adhere to safety legislation and SAIT Policies and Procedures

    • Professional Duties
    • Participate in program, portfolio, School or SAIT meetings
    • Participate in institutional activities that support students and the program
    • Participate in course development, program reviews and quality assurance activities.
    • Engage, as appropriate, in scholarly activity, applied research and other projects.
    • Engage, as relevant, in professional and career development activities.
    • Continue to maintain currency in profession and continue to develop as an faculty member
    • Collaborate with other faculty members and institutional partners to advance teaching methodology and educational technology, and to support student success.
    • Create new and maintain existing practicum partner relationships
    • Leverage experience and areas of passion to help shape the future of learning at SAIT.
    • Contribute to advancing the mission and vision of SAIT as being a global leader in applied education.

Qualifications & Experience

    • Minimum
    • Regulated Medical Laboratory Technologist
    • 2 years as a MLT in an accredited Canadian facility
    • Registered MLT with the CMLTA
    • Ability to register as an MLT with CSMLS

    • Preferred
    • Degree in related field
    • Continuing education or professional development in adult education
    • Preferred core lab experience
    • 2 years education, post-secondary teaching or preceptor experience
    • Registered as an MLT with CSMLS

    • Skills Required
    • Fluent in English reading and vocabulary
    • Maintain a positive & respectful attitude in a team environment
    • Comfortable speaking to the public and students
    • Ability to read, interpret and deliver specific curriculum
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain partnerships and thrive in a team environment
    • Excellent time management and organizational skills
    • Maintain licensure with regulatory bodies
    • Previous teaching experience would be an asset
    • Experience with technology to include learning management systems (Brightspace), Microsoft products, and webinar technology is an asset
    • The applicants must have a somewhat flexible schedule to accommodate the student's timetable
