Job Description

Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator - Extendicare Cedars Villa

Candidates are invited to apply for the Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator position to work Multisite at Extendicare Cedars Villa and Hillcrest, located in Calgary, Alberta.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly accountable to the Regional Manager of Programs.
  • An integral part of the staff development team within the facilities, Conducts Staff education on all aspects of Occupational Health and safety, Hazard assessment, orientation, Crisis prevention etc
  • Support staff in completing and reporting Staff work injuries
  • Follow Corporate direction for submission of staff work injury reports and WCB submissions
  • Coordinate all modified and return to work plans which are WCB and Non WCB related
  • Be the contact person for the OIS clinic and WCB representatives
  • Maintain all Occupational Health and safety documentation including corporate policies, Legislation, CSSA and Partner's in injury reduction activities.
  • Complete emergency response coded Drills, tabletop exercises
  • Partner with community partners to prepare, implement and evaluate Evacuation sites
  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning, Implementation and Evaluation activities
  • Coordinates and chairs OH&S meetings including monthly inspections and minutes which are shared with all staff
  • Performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations/guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in Quality assurance activities, meetings to align the facilities goals with the strategic plan and benchmarks.
  • Foster relationships with all department heads and staff

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A post-secondary degree or equivalent in a health care or related field
  • Certification and experience in Occupational Health and Safety in a health setting is preferred
  • Certification and experience in providing adult education in multiple formats
  • Working knowledge or certified auditor of CSSA Partner's in Injury reduction
  • Experience in managing WCB claims
  • Additional education certificates to support staff learning in Crisis prevention, Trauma informed, Mental health, PIR auditor certificate, Gentle Persuasive approach but not limited too
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office 365 and other application relevant to position
  • Ability to operate office equipment
  • Works collaboratively with the health care team and acts as a champion of customer satisfaction and customer service.
