Reporting to the Manager, Office of Student Conduct and Accountability the Student Resolution Officer provides leadership, vision and direct oversight of the student conduct process, while playing a critical role in facilitating fair process.

The work is carried out through ensuring a consistent and seamless response to non-academic incidents requiring informal resolution, intervention, or formal investigation, ensuring procedural fairness, while determining responsibility and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate Alternative Despite Resolution processes related to student conduct and conflict.

  • Investigate and adjudicate alleged student-related conflicts and conduct complaints.

  • Advise staff and students on resolution pathways related to student misconduct and facilitate resolutions as appropriate.

  • Establish and enhance relationships with campus stakeholders.

  • Balance safety of the community with the goal of promoting student development, holistic student success, and learning.

  • Facilitate presentations and training.

  • Provide expertise and advice regarding procedural matters, including appeals.

  • Research and interpret best practices, trends and relevant legislation/laws.

  • Serve as a resource to others adjudicating academic misconduct.


Skills & Abilities:

  • Conflict resolution, negotiation, investigative report writing skills.

  • Ability to create safe spaces where individuals feel comfortable to participate.

  • Knowledge of legal/regulatory requirements governing the student conduct process.

  • Knowledge of procedures related to student conduct.

  • Knowledge of principles of natural justice administrative fairness, and restorative practice.

  • Knowledge of legislated human rights.

  • Knowledge of FOIP.

  • Knowledge of current issues and best practices in the field of student affairs, judicial affairs, case management, behavioral intervention, risk assessment, campus safety, and workplace violence.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field. For example, judicial studies, leadership, adult education, or psychology. Master's Degree preferred.

  • Specialized training/experience in conflict resolution. For example, ADR (alternative dispute resolution), violence risk management, restorative justice, sexual violence prevention.

  • 3-5 years of related experience working with judicial or quasi-judicial processes.

  • Experience in a Post-Secondary institution in an advising (or related role) is an asset.

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).

Remuneration: $43.60 - $57.76 hourly
