Job Purpose: Reporting to the Clinic Manager; the Referral Clerk LPN is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patients and physicians, and execution of the organization's strategic objectives as it relates to referrals and patient care.
Referral Clerk Responsibilities:
Collection of pertinent information via phone
Accurate data entry of information onto form(s) within the system
Handling questions/concerns in a friendly and effective manner in accordance with our customer service standards
Notifying callers of their appointments and any special instructions via telephone
Friendly, clear and effective communication with all clinic staff, physicians, patients, and employers
Record and document management
Meet daily targets provided by the Clinic Manager
Awareness of the organization's Core Purpose and Core Values and performing to these Core Value's daily
Processing and sending referrals to internal and external specialists, diagnostic testing sites and hospitals
Attaching appropriate clinical information to referrals prior to sending
Notifying patients of their specialist appointments and any special instructions via telephone, mail or email.
Tracking of outstanding referrals and follow-up on pending referrals within recommend timeframes
Licensed Practical Nurse Responsibilities:
Escorting patients to exam rooms and preparing patients for physician
Performing diagnostic testing as ordered by the physician including but not limited to urinalysis, simple blood glucose testing, pregnancy testing
Perform a variety of care interventions and medical procedures as permitted by the physician, within the designated scope of practice
Accurately charting any medical procedures or interventions performed in the patient chart
Follows standards of cleanliness and safety
Scheduling and notifying patients of appointments
Scanning patient documents as required
Opening mail, receiving faxes and distributing appropriately
Completing daily, weekly and monthly chore lists
Participating in the training and orientation of new medical staff and students
Understanding physician profiles and executing requests to properly support physicians
Actively participate in company initiatives
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
1-2 years in a Licensed Practical Nursing position
Minimum 1 year customer service experience
Experience with EMR software is preferred, specifically MedAccess
Exceptional customer service skills
Provide internal communications with Clinic Staff and Management, Operations Team, Physicians and IT technicians
Provide external communications with Specialist offices, Diagnostic Imaging sites, Hospitals, patients and employers
Proven ability to handle confidential information in compliance with regulated guidelines
Excellent communication, listening and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills in English; other languages are an asset
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
Hold a (2) year diploma from an accredited institution
Current registration and in good standing with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta
Ability to handle confidential information in compliance with the Health Information Act guidelines.

Ability to work in a fast paced, high-pressure environment. Ability to balance and manage workload tasks. Ability to work flexible shifts including evenings and weekends. Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
