Detailed Overview

Provides assessments, brief interventions and referral services for youth and adults who are experiencing issues related to problematic substance use and/or addictions and/or concurrent disorders; provides services to clients and their families such as in the form of daytox program. Works in collaboration with community stakeholders and partners in creating awareness around issues related to problematic substance use.


Responsibilities


  1. Provides clinically relevant assessment, relationship building, counselling, treatment goal setting, after care and relapse prevention planning, conflict resolution and referral services for individuals, families and groups.
  2. Assesses client needs and consults with clients and others such as families, physicians, and other referral sources, when appropriate, to insure the development of a comprehensive treatment plan.
  3. Motivates and assists clients in developing and reaching treatment goals.
  4. Facilitates daytox program modules to enhance relapse prevention skills and recovery efforts.
  5. Documents and reports cases for clinical and administrative case management.
  6. Contributes to team building and program and policy development by participating in regular team meetings and peer review process.
  7. Facilitate client utilization of community services and rehabilitative programs.
  8. Provides community education and/or consultation to other agencies providing services.
  9. Initiates and participates in individual professional development; maintains current knowledge and skills in relation to addiction, dual diagnosis, and men's and family issues.
  10. Participates in agency, inter-agency, and/or inter-ministerial committees as required.
  11. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Master's Degree in Social Sciences. Three (3) years' recent, related counselling experience, including facilitating psycho-educational groups or group therapy, working with clients who have addictions and/or who are frequently characterized as concurrent disordered.

Valid Class V British Columbia driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.

  • Ability to identify own experiences and values in relation to the counselling role.
  • Ability to conduct self professionally while respecting the client's right to self determination.
  • Ability to establish rapport with clients and carry out the required clinical functions relating to assessment, treatment plan development and implementation.
  • Ability to work independently, develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of individuals, interest groups, related service providers and participate and contribute as a team member with peers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to problem solve, demonstrating both flexibility and the necessary assertiveness in dealing with complex issues.
  • Ability to operate related equipment utilizing a variety of software applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
