Detailed Overview
Under the general supervision of the Program Coordinator, Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) Program, the position participates as a member of a multidisciplinary team, assists in the planning and implementation of support services and social/recreational programs, and provides supportive counselling within established guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Assists staff in planning and implementing social, recreational and vocational activities and groups for clients.
- Assists clinical staff in the planning and implementation of psychoeducational and lifeskills groups as required.
- Contributes to staff clinical rounds and shares pertinent information and observations with the EPI Central Team and EPI Clinicians, as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Provides one-to-one supportive counselling to clients by methods such as problem solving, de-escalation techniques, and activity-focused interventions.
- Records behavioural observations and interventions according to guidelines.
- Attends staff and multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences, and clinical supervision meetings as required.
- Attends related in-service education programs as requested to maintain a high standard of knowledge.
- Provides clients with transportation and accompaniment to and from group, work sites, educational institutions, recreational events, training events, and appointments.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Degree in Social Sciences or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Valid B.C. Class V Driver's License and access to personal vehicle for business purposes.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to deal effectively with others.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work with adolescents with mental health/psychiatric issues.
- Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and techniques.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
