Description

Assist on the implementation of the After School kids program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides input in planning and assists with the implementation of appropriate aged-based activities according to skill and learning levels that promote social interaction and personal development
  • May assist in orientating new children and families; provides on-going feedback on child's development and behavior
  • Plan and Organize Activities: Develop and implement a variety of age-appropriate arts/crafts projects sports and recreational programmes for children. Create lesson plans, schedules, and activity calendars that promote skills development, physical fitness, and fun.
  • Plan and Prepare activities: Design and organize age-appropriate that align with children's interests and abilities. Gather necessary materials, tools, and supplies in advance.
  • Facilitate Creative Sessions: Lead art workshops or classes for children, providing clear instructions and demonstrations as needed. Encourage creativity, experimentation, and self-expression while maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
  • Promote Exploration and Discovery: Encourage children to explore different mediums, styles, and themes in their activities. Foster curiosity, imagination, and problem-solving skills through open-ended art activities and projects.
  • Ensures that all information about children, family, staff, visitors and volunteers are strictly confidential; and that activity records and statistics are confidentially secured
  • Assists with effective risk management; monitoring food safety, medication storage/disbursement, allergies, facility cleanliness/maintenance; provides emergency first aid and completes, reports and files incident reports as required
  • Role models appropriate behaviors and attitudes supporting growth and promoting change for the child and family
  • Ensures that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of all job responsibilities and through personal example
  • May provide transportation for children to/from school or field trip sites
  • Works with the Supervisor to ensure that programs meet contractual, legal and internal accreditation requirements; ensures full compliance with child protection legislation and intervene when necessary
  • Works with Supervisor to plan programs and other administration duties as required
  • Organize and lead KFC participants through example, positivity and experience.
  • Plan, coordinate or lead activities or workshops to KFC participants (i.e., programming - drama, sports, cross-cultural understanding, spiritual practices, volunteering/community service)
  • If applicable, work alongside food security programmes through interaction with families in need of registration referrals.
  • Work with the team to lead children and youth to respond to the gospel through presentation and prayer, if applicable.
  • Develop relationships with families, encouraging happy and well-developed children and youth, living in peace with themselves and others.
  • Contribute to the annual plans for ministries with input such as written records/logs of activities, reports, and statistics for ministry evaluation.
  • Monitor expenditures to ensure conformity to budget provisions.
  • Participate in staff training and development.
  • Know and act according to the security procedures of The Salvation Army to ensure the safety and confidentiality of participants and information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • 20 Hours Responsible adult certificate in place or a willingness to acquire it prior to employment
  • First aid certificate or willing to take it.
  • Food safe certificate or willing to take it.
  • The successful job applicant will have completed High School or equivalent.
  • Driver's license preferred

Experience:

  • At least 1 year previous relevant experience with children

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Individual, who is committed to the mission of the Salvation Army and is willing and able to work within the Salvation Army doctrine and theology
  • Possesses valid First Aid/CPR certificate or obtains as condition of employment prior to end of probationary period.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with children's assessment of needs and in making appropriate recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to compassionately apply policy and procedures in stressful situations.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theory, principles and practices specifically in the child development field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Non-violent, Food Safe, or the willingness to be trained

OTHER CONDITIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

  • Successful obtainment of clearance through The Salvation Army Child Abuse Registry
  • Successful obtainment of clearance through the Criminal Record Check under the Criminal Records Review Program
  • Successful obtainment of Enhanced Reliability Status Security Clearance

HOURS: 10 +

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean drivers abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
