Purpose of the Role

The Technical Lead, Laboratory Operations is accountable for supporting LifeLabs' Laboratory strategies. This role will oversee all laboratory operations, ensuring that they support the organizations' continuous improvement, quality assurance, and personnel development objectives. This role is pivotal in driving project efficiency and effectiveness while fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment. The Technical Lead collaborates with the Lab Mangers, Supervisors, and Education and Training Specialist to ensure the smooth execution of day-to-day lab functions and overall operational success.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Support or lead Laboratory Operations projects including repatriation exercises
  • Manage lab resources to support ongoing and new projects, ensuring timely delivery and optimal project outcomes
  • Support or lead Laboratory Accreditation activities to include self-assessment and regulatory body assessments and preparation for assessments
  • Support the assessment of new opportunities and or enhancements to current services of the business in conjunction with other stakeholders in the context of the growth strategy
  • Formulate a recommendation, including a risk assessment and resource requirements, to Key Stakeholders to inform a final decision
  • Utilizes expertise and leadership skills to direct staff and to resolve issues to ensure project goals and requirements are met
  • Provide technical expertise and support to projects and day-to-day operations. Facilitating innovation and best practices. Complete, review, and sign-off any technical documentation required for operations or accreditation
  • Ensures project results meet requirements regarding technical quality, reliability, schedule and cost
  • Monitors performance and recommends schedule changes, cost adjustments or resource additions
  • Provide back fill for Lab Ops Managers as required to include day-to-day operations oversight
  • Participate in Quality Management reviews and BCP reviews as required
  • Support Supervisor training and development
  • The foregoing described duties are representative and not necessarily all inclusive

What you bring to the role:

  • At least 5 years experience in a Laboratory Operations Leadership position
  • MLT Diploma Required (CSMLS)
  • MLT experience required
  • Experience in a management role within the Laboratory industry (hospital or private)
  • Strong business acumen
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships
  • Strong understanding of Laboratory Operations and support groups (Finance, PMO, IT, Procurement, QRA, Med Sci, Client services etc.)
  • Occasional travel to Lab locations may be required to carry out assigned duties
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, including the articulation of complex technical problems
  • Ability to effectively and positively influence people and drive change
  • This role is an individual contributor who is expected to support laboratory operations
  • Expected to formulate recommendations based on gathering all of the relevant information to present to the key stakeholders for final decisions to move the projects forward
  • Demonstrated project management success with the completion of 1 large strategic project within the last 2 years
  • Excellent People Leadership skills
  • Excellent facilitation and change management skills
  • Ability to manage cross functional teams
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Financial acuity/knowledge
  • Ability to develop program measurements/KPI's
