Detailed Overview

Performs a variety of duties in a food service department including portioning and serving food to patients/residents in patient’s room and/or in designate area, performing related cleaning duties within work area, and making designated food and beverage items.


Responsibilities

  1. Sets up meal trays with items such as juice, milk, desserts, condiments, dishware, cutlery and napkins according to meal tickets/reports. Delivers and serves meals and/or nourishments to patients/residents in patient’s room and/or in designated area.
  2. Loads, delivers, collects and unloads meal service wagons in patient/resident areas/rooms. Clears and cleans dining room tables.
  3. Counts, weighs and/or measures ingredients for assigned food preparation area.
  4. Makes beverages and food items such as tea, coffee and toast. Portions out food for patients/residents, and/or for cafeteria operation according to specified requirements.
  5. Operates dispensing machines. Puts away and brings out supplies as required. Takes payment and/or meal tickets/vouchers for items purchased. Utilizes cash register (point of sale equipment) as required.
  6. Sets up the cafeteria area by cleaning, stocking and delivering food.
  7. Collects stores requisitions from various areas and delivers supplies to the appropriate areas.
  8. Assembles items such as sandwiches and salads, and stores leftovers by packaging, labeling and storing according to established guidelines.
  9. Washes, peels and stores vegetables and fruit.
  10. Strips, racks and washes items such as dishes, pots, pans and utensils. Loads, operates and unloads dishwashing machines and waste pulper. Returns and stacks dishes to appropriate storage areas.
  11. Performs cleaning duties such as sweeping and damp mopping floors, cleaning counter tops, sinks, cupboards, shelves, machines and equipment, and spot washes wall and splash areas.
  12. Performs clerical duties such as answering phone and taking messages, filing paperwork, and writing information on the menu cards.
  13. Collects and removes soiled linens and places for pick up. Distributes clean linens to designate areas. Cleans and sanitizes garbage cans.
  14. Unloads, unpacks and stores incoming food and supplies. Matches food and supplies to requisitions, and identifies and records any discrepancies.
  15. As assigned, counts and replenishes food and supply stock according to established quota/levels. Completes documentation by indicating number of items required based on established quotas. Stores food supplies according to established policies and procedures. Forwards concerns on food and supply stock and/or quota/levels to the Manager or designate.
  16. Advises Manager or designate of any inoperable, damaged, or unsafe equipment in accordance with established procedures.
  17. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training & Experience


Grade 10 or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current Food Safe level 1 certification or equivalent.
