The School of Nursing in the Faculty of Health and Social Development at the University of British Columbia (UBC) Okanagan campus invites applications for a one-year full-time Lecturer position in the area of medical-surgical nursing with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2025 or a date to be mutually agreed upon.
The position has responsibilities in teaching and service, and hiring decisions will be made based on the candidate's potential to achieve excellence in these areas. The School of Nursing [see http://www.ubc.ca/okanagan/nursing/welcome.html] is housed within the Faculty of Health and Social Development. The faculty also includes schools of Social Work and Health & Exercise Science. The School of Nursing offers undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs in nursing. In addition to active partnerships with our surrounding communities and Interior Health, our school has international partnerships with schools in Ghana and Zambia.
Applicants must be a Registered Nurse, hold practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives as of September 1, 2025, have a minimum of a Master's degree in nursing or a related discipline, and prior teaching experience in both theory and clinical practice courses. The successful candidate should have a record of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level with capacity to teach in medical health and healing, palliative care, and a range of other BSN courses in both classroom and clinical teaching at either Kelowna General Hospital, Vernon Jubilee Hospital or Penticton Regional Hospital. The successful candidate will be expected to teach existing courses within the undergraduate programs, and provide service to the University and the community. The successful candidate will provide supportive and inclusive learning environments for students, and will embed school values (e.g. professionalism, compassion, person-centered care, social justice) into teaching and learning.
Lecturer positions are appointments without review (i.e., non-tenure track) with the possibility of renewal for successive terms, subject to availability of funding and demonstration of excellence in teaching in accordance with the Collective Agreement between UBC and the UBC Faculty Association.
The candidate will be expected to teach eight courses (or course-equivalents) over the 12-month period, with a minimum of two of those being taught in the summer term. Courses for the position would include, but are not limited to include:
Winter Term 1 2025: NRSG 326 (0.5 course equivalents [CE]), NRSG 310 (1 CE) and additional courses to be determined
Winter Term 2 2025: To be determined based on school needs
Summer Term 2 2024: NRSG 326 001 & 002 (1 CE), NRSG 310 (1CE)
We are seeking candidates who have experience teaching in these areas and whose interests will complement and supplement those of our current instructors. Lecturers in the School are also expected to provide service to the Faculty and university.
