Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) and Eagle Ridge Hospital (ERH) are seeking 4 full-time Emergency Physicians to join our physician group (Columbia Emergency Physicians Association). Locum/temporary work opportunities are also available.
The successful applicants will have CCFP (EM) or FRCPC (EM) certification and will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. PALS or APLS certification within five years is also required for work within the region. ABEM certified also eligible. Previous experience in a high-volume, high-acuity Emergency Department is preferable, as is work experience with trauma and pediatric populations. ATLS or other trauma-based certification (e.g. STRUC) is highly recommended. Priority will be given to those applicants with experience and/or interest in research, quality improvement, physician leadership, education, simulation, and geriatric emergency medicine. We are looking to hire applicants who will contribute to increasing the diversity of our sites, and EDI (equity, diversity, and inclusivity) principles guide hiring practices for our departments. Compensation for a full-time Emergency Physician (~13 shifts per month) is approximately $400,000 per year.
Our collegial, cohesive group of emergency physicians now numbers approximately 70 and is one of the largest in the country. This includes physicians with a diverse array of clinical and non-clinical interests within the field of emergency medicine and beyond. Scheduling is flexible and accommodates many different physician preferences for shift distribution, and our group has established maternity/paternity leave policies, vacation and senior-member plans, along with an option for sabbaticals for interested physicians. Clinical practice between RCH and ERH is highly enjoyable given the variety provided by the two different sites and the diverse populations that present from throughout the Fraser Health region to both sites.
Royal Columbian Hospital is home to two residents per year in the FRCP Emergency Medicine training program at UBC. Both sites are University of British Columbia- affiliated teaching hospitals. As a physician at RCH/ERH, you will be expected to attain a faculty appointment in the Dept. of Emergency Medicine, and will teach residents and UBC medical students on shift. Opportunities exist for further involvement in education in both undergraduate and postgraduate medicine at UBC.
Both Eagle Ridge and Royal Columbian Hospitals are located within a 30-40-minute drive of downtown Vancouver. In addition to having access to the beautiful coastal mountains surrounding the region which boast legendary exposure to outdoor activities such as skiing, biking, climbing, hiking, and water sports, Vancouver also offers the many other cultural and artistic amenities of a cosmopolitan city.
