Description

The House Support Worker provides essential support to the emergency shelter clients staying at The Stevenson House. This is an equal opportunity posting and we would encourage both men and women to apply.

HOURS:

  • Variable:
  • 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • 3:30 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.
  • 11:30 p.m. - 7:30am
  • 7:30 p.m. - 7:30am

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cleans shelter rooms, washrooms, kitchen, lounge and common areas.
  • Packing up client's belongings and prepping beds and rooms for new clients.
  • Monitors the environment and clients/residents to ensure safety and security; completes regular client/resident status.
  • Ensures client supervision and adherence to rules and policies.
  • Provides laundry services for the shelter and shelter clients.
  • Acts as a positive role model for clients by developing professional interpersonal relationships that promote dignity and respect.
  • Light food preparation and serving to clients at mealtimes.
  • Conducts all required shift change procedures prior to and after shift change.
  • Maintains required documentation and shelter log.
  • Performs basic building maintenance. Collects and disposes of refuse and maintains clean refuse area; performs spot cleaning as required.
  • Monitors appropriate behaviour; ensures the rules are followed.
  • Provides orientation to new clients.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • The successful job applicant will have completed high school, plus a diploma in related field (Human Services, Social Services).

NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.

Education/Certifications:

  • Valid First Aid / CPR
  • Food Safe
  • WHIMIS

Experience:

  • More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, including, experience with frontline work in a social services setting providing direct client care.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Food Safe
  • Nonviolent conflict intervention training
  • Overdose awareness and prevention / Naloxone training
  • Computer use - internet, email, Microsoft Office 365
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Prefer experience in working with marginalized people.

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean drivers abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
