Job Summary

We have a Temporary Part Time opportunity for an Occupational Therapist. This position supports QPCC Long Term Care. This position is avalible until December 2024 or return of Incumbent.

Queens Park Care Centre (QPCC) is located in New Westminster and provides rehabilitation services, an adult day program and a long-term care community. QPCC has an outpatient rehab service and 76 specialized inpatient rehabilitation beds. These provide intensive rehab for different patient populations including Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury and Stroke rehab patients as well as lower leg amputees, complex neurological conditions and other muscular skeletal injuries. Queens Park is a small and friendly site with a close link to its community and a high dependency on it’s multidisciplinary team. Detailed Overview

Under the general direction of the Clinical Supervisor, Occupational Therapy and in conjunction with the members of the multidisciplinary team, the Occupational Therapist assesses, plans, coordinates, implements and evaluates intervention for patients/residents and clients in relation to Occupational Therapy practices; participates in in-service education, and provides input into program development.


Responsibilities

  1. As directed, develops, implements and evaluates occupational therapy programs and services for patients, residents and clients.
  2. Assesses patients', residents' and clients' physical and functional status, develops appropriate health care plan, provides required interventions and follow up including arrangements for discharge, in accordance with established occupational therapy techniques and practices; provides consultation and education regarding self-care, productivity and leisure to the patients, residents and clients.
  3. Attends patient/resident/client care conferences and family meetings and presents information related to occupational therapy assessments; recommends related interventions and participates in the development of the patient/resident/client care plan.
  4. Records, maintains and updates patient/resident/client records such as assessments, interventions and statistical data in accordance with departmental and hospital policies.
  5. Demonstrates, patient/resident/client occupational therapy interventions to designated staff and students in accordance with established guidelines.
  6. Provides input to the Clinical Supervisor regarding the development, revision, implementation and evaluation of occupational therapy practices, policies and procedures, audits and continuous quality improvement activities.
  7. Participates in orientation and inservice training of staff, students, and volunteers on such topics as mechanical lifts, positioning and back care.
  8. Identifies and makes recommendations to the Clinical Supervisor, regarding procedures, purchase, general maintenance and repair of equipment.
  9. Participates in product and equipment trials and reports observations under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor and in accordance with established procedures.
  10. Identifies clinical research projects and under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor, participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of same.
  11. Performs other related tasks as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Baccalaureate degree in Occupational Therapy from an approved university program.

Current full registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC. Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) or the British Columbia Society of Occupational Therapists (BCSOT).
