Detailed Overview

Provides clerical support by performing such duties as assisting with timekeeping duties and recording of workload statistics. Types correspondence, reports and maintains procedures manuals. Creates and maintains computerized inventory of sterile supply instrumentation and tracks status of loaner instrumentation. Maintains records, stationery and supply levels. Performs receptionist duties, filing, photocopying, faxing and distributes mail. Performs medical device reprocessing technician duties as assigned.


Responsibilities

  1. Performs clerical duties such as assisting with recording of workload statistics on supplies and equipment dispatched from the department. Completes maintenance requisitions for signature, maintains records, types correspondence and reports, files, photocopies and faxes.
  2. Assists the Supervisor, MDR with timekeeping duties by entering information from work schedules into Meditech and forwarding to Payroll.
  3. Participates in the maintenance of the procedure manuals by typing, cutting and pasting, photocopying, and filing new and/or revised procedures.
  4. Creates and maintains computerized inventory of sterile supply instrumentation and tracks status of loaner instrumentation.
  5. Maintains stationery and supply levels by monitoring stock, preparing order requisitions and storing supplies as required.
  6. Answers the telephone, takes messages, answers routine enquiries and distributes mail.
  7. Performs medical device reprocessing technician duties as assigned including, cleaning, decontaminating, checking, testing, assembling, sterilizing and distributing supplies, instruments and equipment related to the Operating Room and others areas of the Hospital.
  8. Operates departmental equipment such as automated washers, cart washer, pasteurizer, ultrasonic washer, clean dryer, heat sealer, and sterilizers.
  9. Participates in routine maintenance of Department's equipment by cleaning, checking and testing sterilizers, mechanical washers and other MDR equipment; cleans work and storage areas as assigned.
  10. Picks supplies and instruments for surgical cases.
  11. Participates in the Department's Quality Assurance Program.
  12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Sterile Supply Processing program, plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of surgical and medical terminology.
  • Mathematical aptitude.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to type 40 wpm.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
