Job Summary | The Associate Dean (AD), Diagnostics & Allied Health provides day to day operational management of diagnostic and allied health program areas in consultation with the Dean of Health Sciences. The AD ensures that the School's strategic plan is translated and brought to life in the day-to-day operations of the diagnostic and allied health program areas and within the overall mission and goals of the College. Connecting the diagnostic and allied health program areas to the School's strategic plan, the AD's role is primarily internal facing. The AD provides advocacy and representation of the diagnostic and allied health program areas in the development of the School's strategic plan. The AD works closely with coordinators, faculty and staff to translate the School's strategic initiatives into operational plans to be implemented in the individual diagnostic and allied health program areas. The AD, Diagnostics & Allied Health works consultatively with the Dean of Health Sciences in the strategic planning process, formulating and implementing the vision for the school. As directed, the AD, Diagnostics & Allied Health may be assigned to special projects and may be asked to represent the Dean on internal councils and in external facing activities. Through consultation with the Dean of the School of Health Sciences, the AD, Diagnostics and Allied Health is primarily responsible for the effective management of the diagnostic and allied health programs assigned within the School's responsibilities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, planning, organizing, staffing, and managing resources for diagnostics and allied health in the School of Health Sciences. The AD, Diagnostics & Allied Health provides a perspective and analysis of academic and educational requirements for the diagnostic and allied health programs to the Dean of the School of Health Sciences. NATURE & SCOPE: • The College of New Caledonia is a publicly funded post-secondary school. The School of Health Sciences, comprising 8 programs in the fields of Nursing, Dental Studies and Medical Diagnostics, has a budget of approximately $5 million. Management oversight is provided by one Dean, and two Associate Deans, who work closely with approximately 50 full-time and 25 part-time faculty employees and operational staff. • As an educational administrator, the Associate Dean, Diagnostics and Allied Health reports to the Dean of the School of Health Sciences and has associated responsibilities for the management, guidance, and direction of programs within the School. The School includes the following diagnostic and allied health sciences programs: Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, Medical Laboratory Technology Science, Medical Radiography Technology, and Diagnostic Medical Sonography. The Associate Dean, Diagnostics & Allied Health will be primarily responsible for day-to-day operations of that portfolio and may be expected to provide coverage for the Nursing/Pharm Tech portfolio for short periods of time throughout the academic year. • You will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College and in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners. • You will promote a positive work atmosphere by interacting and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues. |
Specific Duties | The Associate Dean, Diagnostics and Allied Health provides management of identified program areas, and in consultation with the Dean and leadership at regional campuses, provides leadership in the diagnostic and allied health program areas which is consistent with the School of Health Sciences strategic plans and the overall mission and goals of the College. The Associate Dean, Diagnostics and Allied Health is involved in the following functions: • Contributes to the overall leadership of CNC by anticipating, recommending, and contributing to the development of educational policies and long-term planning • Promotes and encourages educational approaches within an inclusive and indigenized, internationalized environment • Establishes, monitors, and participates on various institutional committees • Engages both key college wide initiatives and relevant community consultation initiatives in collaboration with the Dean of Health Sciences • Coordinates accreditation processes to ensure program standards are met consistently • Facilitates the regular evaluation of faculty employees and operational staff • Facilitates and supports professional development activities for faculty employees and operational staff • Ensures CNC contributions to diagnostic and allied health program articulation meetings and any other diagnostic and allied health related committees • Chairs departmental committees as delegated by the Dean of School Health Sciences • Participates in the orientation of new faculty employees and operational staff to all operational aspects of the School of Health Sciences • Identifies new program opportunities and assists with the development of new programs and services within the School. • Works in consultation with the Dean of School of Health Sciences regarding effective diagnostic and allied health program fiscal management • Participates in the development of diagnostic and allied health program plans and goals consistent with the School of Health Sciences Educational Plan and CNC Strategic Plan • Assists with the administration of collective agreements for diagnostic and allied health programs within the School of Health Sciences • Meets with students to resolve issues, and when delegated by the Dean of the School of Health Sciences, assesses student appeals and complaints • Identifies new policy directions and assists in the evaluation and implementation of current policies • Represents the Dean of School of Health Sciences when requested • Liaise with regulatory and other external partners for day-to-day program management of diagnostic and allied health programs • Performs other related duties as assigned |
Skills & Qualifications | The Associate Dean, Diagnostics and Allied Health will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vison, mission, and goals of the School of Health Sciences and College of New Caledonia and in supporting the aspirations and needs of employees, learners and communities. As an educational administrator, the Associate Dean, Diagnostics and Allied Health must have a combination of professional qualifications, professional experiences and contributions, leadership practice, teaching experience, community awareness and personal attributes that inspires confidence and motivates others. The Associate Dean, Diagnostics and Allied Health will promote a positive work atmosphere and a professional environment that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues. The qualified candidate must have: • An undergraduate degree in a relevant field of study (including education, public health or leadership) • A current BC licensure/registration in a health discipline within the School of Health Sciences and be of good standing in the profession • Minimum of three years teaching experience in a post-secondary institution • Minimum of two years of experience in post-secondary/community/institutional/management/ administration • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered The preferred candidate will have: • Master's Degree a discipline of study relevant to the school's responsibility • A strong base and knowledge of the post-secondary sector • Knowledge of the roles of community colleges as well as a comprehensive understanding of the philosophy of adult learning models • Demonstrated ability to apply educational approaches within an inclusive, Indigenized, and internationalized community college context • A proven ability to articulate and implement educational leadership and management philosophies • Experience in planning and implementing diagnostic and allied health programs to meet community needs • Demonstrated ability to manage all elements of the employee life cycle for faculty and staff in program areas (staffing, recruitment, selection, orientation, training and development) • Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem solving, and analytical skills • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and cooperate with others • Evidence based decision-making and excellent judgement when balancing competing demands |
