Job Summary | Reporting to Manager, Student Life and Housing, this position develops and implements strategies to improve the holistic and balanced health and wellbeing of the Student College community. The overall objective is to create a healthy campus environment for all that promotes success by enabling people to increase control over and improve their health and wellness. A collaborative approach will be utilized which engages both internal and external stakeholders. This position will be a contributor and an advocate for a holistic approach in the development and implementation of an institutional Health and Wellness plan. |
Specific Duties | A primary focus of this position is providing holistic wellness training for students including scheduling, developing, delivering, and evaluating these programs. Utilization of a five-stage conceptual model (Building momentum and support, Planning approach, Implementing, Evaluating and Sustaining) to create a sense of shared responsibility that requires commitment and support from all areas of the college community internally as well as the external community. The programs and training sessions offered will reflect the needs of the college community as identified through institutional surveys, data analysis, and current trends in the Post-Secondary environment. There will also be engagement with external community resources to utilize their expertise and implement existing programs where needed. The Wellness Promotion Coordinator works collaboratively with other College staff and in particular Student Services staff to optimize students' opportunities to connect to an integrated network of programs, services and supports that enhance their personal and academic success. Wellness Promotion Coordinator duties include but are not limited to: 1. Planning, developing and implementing on health promotion activities by collaborating with internal and external resources. 2. Creating, adopting, coordinating, and ensuring the delivery of educational, knowledge-informed events and activities such as: • Training programs including BCcampus Wellness Courses, Mental Health First Aid Training, First Responder to Sexual Assault & Abuse Training, Question Persuade Refer Suicide Prevention Training, Overdose Prevention and Take-Home Naloxone Training (Naloxone Training), Spirituality, Mindfulness, Nutrition, Sexual Health, Substance Use, Addictions, Bullying, and Financial Planning. • Wellness events including Walks, Nutritional Cooking/Canning, Mental Health week, Be Fit For Life initiatives (ie, Blood pressure clinics, massages), Wellness challenges, Wellness Fairs. Other training opportunities/events for students as they arise. • Specific activities in collaboration with the International and the Aboriginal Resource Centre (ARC) teams. • Initiatives and programs that actively promote a sense of belonging for all students, fostering an inclusive environment through workshops, community-building activities, and outreach efforts that address diverse needs and encourage student engagement and connection. • Wellness Initiatives on Regional Campuses in collaboration with their teams. 3. Evaluation and Sustainability: • Construct a results-based, accountability framework with outcomes, performance measures and indicators. • Create and define health status indicators for the CNC Campus Community based on relevant research and in collaboration with CNC Institutional Research. • Perform assessments to determine relevant and appropriate programming for all campuses. • Measure the effectiveness of training and events by utilizing various methods of evaluation (attendance, surveys, etc.). • Track emerging issues and respond to identified needs for support. • Communicate with the college community on the overall performance of the Health and Wellness program. • Collect and maintain data from reports, and events to identify trends in the data. Evaluate the health risks identified while still maintaining confidentiality and respect of the individual. • Sustain a process to provide support and resources to Departments and Centres to encourage the utilization of support services, and to create consistent approaches to supporting individuals. 4. Marketing, Promoting, Communicating and Momentum: • Market and promote training and planned events by using available internal resources (Marketing & Events department, ITS, etc.) for appropriate dissemination of information and messaging using various media. • Collaborate with staff and student groups to develop health promotion themes, materials and communications for the college community. • Use an outcomes-based approach to programming for effective marketing and evaluations for continuous ongoing improvements. • Communicate successes of the different programs. • Communicate and collaborate with other post-secondary institutions to build and enhance programming. • Provide targeted and timely communications based on the academic year, student life cycle, and access to support services. Collaborate with the CNC Student Union (CNCSU) as a resource for student communications. • Promote the utilization of internal and external health and wellness resources. • You will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College and in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners. • You will promote a positive work atmosphere by interacting and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues. |
Skills & Qualifications | • Bachelor's degree (or higher) specializing in Public Health, Psychology, Kinesiology, Education, or other relevant field of study • 3 years or more direct and related experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered • Evidence informed decision making. Ability to collect and interpret internal and external data, relevant research • Knowledge of the role and function of Student Services in the Post-secondary system preferred • Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of adult education • Demonstrated ability to deal professionally with students • Sensitive and responsive to the diverse needs and perspectives of students • Experience organizing and delivering effective workshops and presentations • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with team members • Understanding of FOIPPA • Demonstrated inter-cultural competencies • Proven ability to successfully facilitate collaborative group work • Excellent, proven organizational skills • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven problem-solving skills in complex situations • Demonstrated operational leadership abilities • Proven ability to work positively with a very demanding workload, changing priorities, and continuous interruptions. • Ability to work independently and meet extremely demanding work schedules and deadlines, over which the incumbent has little or no control. • Proven ability to maintain positive working relationships internally and externally. |
