Key Responsibilities:

Detailed Overview

Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients/clients/residents and families:

Reporting to one of the Leaders in Absence & Disability Management and in collaboration with the Workplace Health Team, the Client Partner, Disability Management/Work Accommodation is responsible for case management for the rehabilitation of ill/injured employees through the development, negotiation and implementation of rehabilitation, vocational rehabilitation, return to work plans and duty to accommodate agreements. Responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of musculoskeletal injury prevention programs in an assigned area of Fraser Health.


Responsibilities

  1. Performs case management for the rehabilitation of ill/injured employees through the development, negotiation and implementation of rehabilitation, vocational rehabilitation, return to work plans and duty to accommodate agreements. Monitors the effectiveness of such agreements and plans.
  2. Provides direction to, and works with external agencies such as WorkSafe BC, ICBC, Great West Life and Healthcare Benefit Trust in the development, negotiation and implementation of disability/case management plans and agreements which are realistic and durable.
  3. Performs these functions in conjunction and in negotiation with union and management representatives to ensure effective implementation of agreements.
  4. Implements such agreements and plans to ensure both a safe and durable return to work for FH staff and cost effective disability management practices on behalf of FH.
  5. Coordinates the appropriate participants in the development of individual return to work plans and ensures the process and outcome are evaluated.
  6. Assesses workplace exposure to ergonomic risks and provides recommendations on interventions such as engineering controls, administrative controls, and training.
  7. Performs job task analyses and advises departments regarding changes to job design and practices that will reduce the risk for injuries.
  8. Establishes contact with injured employees and serves as the focal point for centralized communication and coordination of the treatment/rehabilitation plan.
  9. Identifies systemic barriers to return to work and assists departments to identify suitable transition work for ill/injured employees.
  10. Develops implements and evaluates instructional programs and training materials to assist managers, supervisors and staff in such areas as musculoskeletal injury prevention, return to work and duty to accommodate.
  11. Collects and analyzes data and prepares applicable reports and proposals.
  12. Represents the department on a variety of selected internal and external committees.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in a health discipline such as Kinesiology, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy or Occupational Health Nursing plus five (5) years' recent related experience in a large multi-union environment and registration with the appropriate professional organization OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated teaching skills.
