We currently have an exciting Full Time opportunity for a dynamic individual to join the team as a Clinical Health Psychologist for the Primary Care & Community Health Networks in Surrey, British Columbia.

Leads the development of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, pathways, protocols and decision support tools for Family Physician.Provides training and involved in training design to behavioural health coaches for the treatment of patients identified to be at risk for /early stages of chronic disease, to make lifestyle, cognitive and behavioural modifications. Provides ongoing direct and indirect supervision to ensure treatment fidelity and to prevent drift in behavioural health coaches' interventions. Develops and supervises the delivery of group-based treatment programs. Evaluates the effectiveness of the psychological treatments and provides new recommendations and program development as appropriate. Provides assessment and short term direct specialized services to patients experiencing a high level of complex concerns. Coordinates with medical and mental health providers to ensure wrap-around and comprehensive care for clients requiring a higher level of mental health assessment and treatment. Assists with the analysis of data in order to make necessary adjustments to guidelines and pathways.

Detailed Overview

As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the Clinical Health Psychologist is responsible for the provision of behavioural health services for family practice clinics within the Primary Care Network, based on its Mission, Vision and Values.

Responsible to develop and provide a full range of psychological programs and program evaluation services within the Primary Care Network, and to provide training and supervision to behavioural health coaches who are supporting patients identified to be at risk/early stages of chronic disease, to facilitate and enable lifestyle, cognitive and behavioural modifications that are realistic and maintainable. The psychologist also provides specialty direct service (i.e. assessment, treatment planning, referral) for patients with complex needs.

Provides continuing education to physicians, other health care providers and community organizations to increase community capacity and understanding of behavioural and cognitive contributors to health outcomes. Within the multidisciplinary team framework, participates in program guideline development and evaluation, quality assurance, clinical research and education activities.


Responsibilities

  1. Leads the development of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, pathways, protocols and decision support tools for family practice patients.
  2. Provides training and involved in training design to behavioural health coaches for the treatment of patients identified to be at risk for early stages of chronic disease, to make lifestyle, cognitive and behavioural modifications. Modifications include but are not limited to physical activity, nutrition, stress management, sleep, medication adherence, dealing with negative emotions, enhancing well-being and problem solving. Treatment is based on multiple evidence-based behavioural change programs which includes making small changes in all areas of cognitive and behaviour.
  3. Provides ongoing direct and indirect supervision to ensure treatment fidelity and to prevent drift in behavioural health coaches' interventions.
  4. Develops and supervises the delivery of group-based treatment programs. Evaluates the effectiveness of the psychological treatments and provides new recommendations and program development as appropriate.
  5. Provides assessment and short term direct specialized services to patients experiencing a high level of complex concerns.
  6. Coordinates with medical and mental health providers to ensure wrap-around and comprehensive care for clients requiring a higher level of mental health assessment and treatment.
  7. Provides continuing education to physicians, other health care providers and community organizations to increase community capacity and understanding of behavioural and cognitive contributors to health outcomes.
  8. Maintains liaison with referring physicians and other professionals regarding clients' total care.
  9. Assists with the analysis of data in order to make necessary adjustments to guidelines and pathways.
  10. Attends and participates in multidisciplinary conferences, medical rounds, service and department meetings as required and appropriate.
  11. Participates in clinical research, and in program planning, evaluation and implementation.
  12. May supervise students as required.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience


Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from a recognized educational institution.


Registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia.


Five (5) years recent related experience within primary care, chronic health or related setting employing knowledge/understanding of cognitive and behavioural health change and demonstrated experience leading psychological interventions and consultations working within an interdisciplinary team environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


Valid BC Drivers License and access to a vehicle for business-related purposes.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical health psychology, behavioural change models, cognitive therapy, psychological treatment development and treatment integrity.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective psychological treatment to people with various chronic health conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to contribute as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including comprehensive written assessments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement guidelines, decision support tools and protocols.
  • Demonstrated quality assurance, program evaluation, and research skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, teach and mentor others.
  • Ability to plan, implement, organize and prioritize work.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
