Job Summary

Our team is looking for four compassionate full-time (4 x 1.0 FTE) Palliative Care Physicians. This is an exciting opportunity, where you will work alongside other palliative care physicians and our multidisciplinary team to provide Most Responsible Provider (MRP) coverage at Laurel Place Hospice and our Palliative Complex Care Unit; and consultation services to acute care and community-based patients.

Throughout the Fraser Health Authority we provide integrated, regional, comprehensive palliative care services in a number of settings including 30 Palliative Complex Care Unit (PCCU) beds; consult services in 12 acute care sites as well as in the community and other settings; and support to 126 hospice beds. Additionally, we provide under-graduate and post-graduate teaching in affiliation with the Division of Palliative Care at the University of British Columbia.

Qualifications:

  • Eligibility for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia is required.
  • Certification from either the College of Family Physicians of Canada or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Preference will be provided to individuals who have completed additional training in Palliative Medicine, from either stream outlined below:
  • One-year enhanced skills residency and acquired the Certificate of Added Competence (CAC) through the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
  • Two-year Royal College subspecialty in Palliative Medicine.

Surrey Memorial Hospital is the largest of three regional hospitals in Fraser Health’s integrated network of care, providing primary, secondary, and tertiary services, including 24/7 emergency (including a dedicated pediatrics emergency area), cardiac and critical care, levels one, two and three obstetrics and neonatal intensive care, adolescent and adult inpatient psychiatry, surgical sub-specialties (e.g., plastics, thoracic, vascular, orthopedic), inpatient rehabilitation and ambulatory care. Consistent with the integrated network approach to delivering care, community programs such as home health, public health, community mental health are part of the care and service continuum.

As a regional hospital for Fraser Health, as well as the home hospital for one of BC’s fastest growing communities, Surrey Memorial Hospital is the second largest hospital in the province with the province’s busiest Emergency Department. Surrey Memorial Hospital provides specialized care to people from across Fraser Health, not only to residents of Surrey.
