Detailed Overview
Reporting clinically to the Professional Practice Chief / Clinical Practice Leader and administratively to the Manager, Clinical Operations, this position assesses, plans, implements, and monitors physiotherapy treatment to patients/residents. Delegates components of treatment to Assistants/Aides. As part of the interdisciplinary team, acts as a resource on issues relating to areas of physiotherapy expertise. Participates in development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical physiotherapy practice, including philosophy, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, continuous quality improvement and risk management of the physiotherapy services.
Responsibilities
- Provides clinical physiotherapy treatment, including, assessment, problem identification, setting treatment goals, treatments and re-evaluation of patients/residents. Educates patients/residents and their families in aspects of the physiotherapy treatment. Obtains patient/resident history from chart, interviews and observation, as well as information provided at patent/resident conferences and team meetings. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, makes recommendations for treatment, to ensure quality patient/resident care.
- Delegates components of treatment to Assistants/Aides by instructing, observing and monitoring treatment provided to ensure quality patient/resident care. Provides input to the Clinical Practice Chief / Professional Practice Leader, Physiotherapy for the performance evaluation of the Assistants/Aides
- Promotes awareness of good body mechanics to facility staff, patients/residents and families by methods such as modeling, making presentations and acting as a resource to staff, patients/residents and/or families by providing information and answering questions related to physiotherapy.
- Maintains patient/resident records, clinical outcome measures and statistical data in accordance with department, facility, and professional standards.
- Participates in development, implementation, and evaluation of the physiotherapy service by providing input and feedback to the Professional Practice Chief / Professional Practice Leader, Physiotherapy regarding philosophy, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, continuous quality improvement, and risk management.
- Participates in interdisciplinary, departmental and professional development to ensure awareness of current developments of evidence based physiotherapy practice.
- Provides instruction, feedback, and supervision to students as required.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Graduation from an approved program in Physiotherapy. Current full registration with the College of Physical Therapists of BC (CPTBC). Eligible for membership in the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia (PABC).
