JOB DESCRIPTION

(Temporary, Full-Time)

Position: Assistant Athletic Therapist (Temporary)

Department: Hockey Operations

Reports to: Head Athletic Therapist, Director of Sports Performance

Location: Vancouver, BC

Term: Approximately 3-4 months

Salary Range: $3,000-$4,000 per month. Travel expenses and accommodation provided during away games if needed.

SUMMARY:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Temporary Assistant Athletic Therapist to join the Vancouver Canucks Hockey Club of the National Hockey League (NHL). The successful candidate will work closely with our Head Athletic Therapist, Assistant Athletic Therapists and the rest of the High Performance Team to provide comprehensive care to our professional athletes, ensuring their optimal physical health and performance through the duration of the contract.

This temporary role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, high-performance environment, where you will directly impact the well-being of elite hockey players during practices, games, and travel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (other duties may be assigned as required)

Bench Coverage:

  • Act as the secondary athletic therapist providing bench coverage during practices and reconditioning sessions in accordance with league policy.

First Responder Duties:

  • Act as a first responder during games, practices, morning skates, and return to play skates.
  • Participate in monthly Emergency Action Protocol (EAP) Scenarios

Administrative Duties:

  • Ensure compliance with all aspects of NHL Medical Standards Handbook.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork to be compliant with NHL protocols
  • Daily input of information into league athlete health monitoring system and team based athlete management system
  • Assisting with medical room inventory and general cleanliness

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Athletic Therapy, Kinesiology, or related field.
  • Certification as an Athletic Therapist - CAT(C).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working within high performance sport. Prior work experience in high level hockey will be considered an asset.
  • Valid certification in CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and First Aid is required. First Responder certification will be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record systems and medical imaging techniques (e.g., MRI, X-ray) is an asset.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well in a team-oriented setting.
  • Valid other strength and conditioning, sports science or nutrition certifications are considered an additional asset
  • Willingness to travel and work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to perform bench coverage and first responder duties, including lifting and moving athletes.
  • Capacity to work long hours, including evenings, weekends, and during team travel.
