What you'll do

  • Provide clinical instruction, mentorship and support to new and existing staff as required while providing direct care to patients. Facilitate learning by role modelling direct patient care skills and practices to staff, promoting skill development and clinical decision making, overseeing staff performing patient care and providing feedback to ensure care is provided according to program standards, standards of practice, clinical practice guidelines, and ensuring compliance of legal requirements set out by the Review Board.
  • Facilitate staff learning by acting as a clinical resource and demonstrates expertise and leadership in nursing practice by methods such as demonstrating procedures, answering questions related to clinical practice issues, problem solving, troubleshooting concerns and leading clinical rounds.
  • Coordinate and participate in quality improvement, risk management activities through methods such as assisting Manager with planning, developing and evaluating the client care; drafting new and/or revised procedures, standards and criteria in conjunction with the Nursing Supervisors, interdisciplinary team and client/family; participating in the development of evaluation criteria and information gathering tools, evaluating effect of changes in client care practice; reviewing documents to measure, compare and report on results and recommending alternative approaches and the development of, or changes to, selected policies, procedures or protocols.
  • Assist Clinical Nurse Manager and Nursing Supervisors with day to day operations within specialized ambulatory clinics by methods such as providing clinical guidance, ensuring staff relief as appropriate, and coordinating the daily administrative activities.
  • Demonstrate expertise and provides leadership in nursing practice. Develop and implement clinical pathways, and evaluates clinical practice. Develop knowledge to do this through methods such as reviewing literature in public health including disease prevention and control, consulting with community experts and clinical nurse specialists, evaluating clinical practice and referral systems, developing new and/or revised standards, and developing/presenting education sessions based upon a specialized body of knowledge.
  • Provide formal and informal consultations to staff/community nurses, other multidisciplinary team members and students through methods such as reviewing client/family needs or a specific client's progress, troubleshooting and providing guidance/knowledge in the management of a client or client group.
  • Attend to problem/conflict situations, customer service/client relations issues and facilitates successful resolution which includes the identification of quality improvement opportunities, meeting with clients and families initiating the appropriate corrective action including changes to existing policies and/or procedures, and keeping Manager and/or Nursing Supervisor informed.
  • Provide treatment and facilitates the education of choice according to the approved plan of treatment, assessing client's progress and giving support to each client directly and indirectly. Develop and utilize educational programs and materials related to the clinic-specific group from a disease-prevention to a wellness-promotion perspective.

What you bring

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Two (2) years' recent, related nursing experience in the designated clinical area(s), including one year's related teaching experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge in public health programs and possessing a broad knowledge of BC's health care system.
  • Working knowledge and experience with principles of adult education. Demonstrated ability to use independent judgment and to work as part of a committee, work group, and team.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with others in a consultative/collaborative method.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as an effective leader, motivator, coach/mentor, and team member within a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clinical and administrative supervision and consultation.
  • Demonstrated excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities, problem solve, adjust to new or unexpected events, and deal effectively with and/or guide others in resolution of conflict issues.
  • Broad knowledge of research methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment.
  • Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized client care information system and word processing, spreadsheet, Internet and e-mail software.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
