Job Summary

Live 5-2-1-0 is a community-based public health initiative focused on health promotion for children in British Columbia. Using a collective impact framework, Live 5-2-1-0 aims to engage multiple sectors and empower communities to share the evidence-based Live 5-2-1-0 message and create environments and policies that support healthy childhood behaviours. Currently active in over ten BC communities, Live 5-2-1-0 has partnerships with municipal staff, healthcare authority teams, non-profits, school districts, and many other stakeholders to promote healthier behaviours among children and families, with growing interest from additional communities across the province. The Live 5-2-1-0 project coordinator is responsible for a range of tasks related to developing, maintaining, and sustaining partnerships within Live 5-2-1-0 communities. Based on each unique community's needs and priorities, the coordinator supports the co-creation and distribution of resources and tools to support community goals and priorities. The coordinator also has a central role in knowledge translation, disseminating new resources and research findings on a regular basis to community partners through various channels including the live5210.ca website, an electronic newsletter, social media, community webinars and annual events. The project coordinator must be willing to work independently, flexibly, and collaboratively to meet the dynamic needs of a community partnership-based health promotion initiative.



Organizational Status
The Project Coordinator will report directly to the Live 5-2-1-0 Project Manager (Dr. M. Sweeney Magee) and to the Live 5-2-1-0 Project Lead (Dr. Shazhan Amed).


Work Performed

Work performed will include (but is not exclusive to):

  • Building new community partnerships, with responsibility for strengthening, maintaining, and sustaining existing relationships.
  • Leading the development of new, community-specific projects aligned with community needs and opportunities. This role requires navigating and balancing diverse perspectives and interests to ensure project objectives are both feasible and impactful.
  • Attending meetings to define strategy, goals, and scope of community projects, and providing strategic input into project direction.
  • Directing the monitoring and tracking of individual community project progress to ensure all projects are completed on time.
  • Facilitate inter-community knowledge-sharing and collaboration, hosting regular meetings and summits, while ensuring the Central Team adapts its approach based on community partner needs, and shared outcomes.
  • Leading the dissemination of knowledge through webinars, workshops, and other knowledge exchange platforms. Responsible for ensuring these efforts advance the broader Live 5-2-1-0 strategy, through gathering detailed feedback from attendees on current needs and future priorities in child health promotion.
  • Manage and contribute to the dissemination of research findings via the Live 5-2-1-0 platform, including website updates, social media campaigns, and newsletters, while working with external designers for their services.
  • Developing and validating Live 5-2-1-0 resources and tools including the Healthcare Provider toolkit, Activity and Resources toolkit and Fact Sheet series, incorporating evidence-based practices to ensure their relevance, accuracy, and up-to-date alignment with current health standards and guidelines.
  • Directing the development of community-specific resources in collaboration with community partners, ensuring the needs of all stakeholders, including children and families, are coherently addressed in the finished resources.
  • Developing and producing comprehensive knowledge translation deliverables, including detailed progress reports, accessible lay summaries, and engaging community presentations.
  • Developing and delivering training programs and workshops to community partners and new staff members on various topics. These topics include but are not limited to: gathering evaluation data via the Live 5-2-1-0 partnership tracking tool, the use and promotion of the Live 5-2-1-0 App, and delivering the Live 5-2-1-0 message to community trainees.
  • Collaborating with the Live 5-2-1-0 Research and Evaluation Coordinator to evaluate community projects, including participant recruitment, survey distribution, and data extraction.
  • Preparing, composing, editing, and proofing documents such as grant applications, project proposals, and communications to ensure accuracy and clarity.
  • Managing the finances of the project and relevant grants on a day-to-day basis, including responsibility for the reconciliation of project finances and the maintenance and submission of financial reports for review.
  • Coordinating, training, and supervising trainees and junior staff including other research assistants when required.
  • Performing other related duties as required.

This role demands a proactive, organized, motivated and detail-oriented individual capable of handling multiple responsibilities and complex tasks to support the Live 5-2-1-0 initiative's mission and goals.


Consequence of Error/Judgement
All work performed by the Project Coordinator will be reviewed by the Project Manager and Project Lead. Inappropriate judgment or error on the part of the Project Coordinator will result in wasted time and money. Inadequate workmanship will reflect poorly on the project staff and may impact the sustainability of the project.


Supervision Received

The Project Coordinator will report primarily to the Project Manager and Project Lead. It is expected that the Project Coordinator be able to work independently and be pro-active in identifying challenges to the progress of the project.


Supervision Given
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for supervising the work of students, volunteers and local community research assistants as needed. The Project Coordinator will also be responsible for supervising research assistants, including overseeing their technical work, within the group on an as needed basis.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of a university degree in a relevant discipline or technical program and a minimum four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some positions may require a graduate degree.
  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one's own
  • Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in public health, or related field will be considered a major asset.
  • Experience with community engagement and/or community-based participatory research.
  • Effective oral and written communication with diverse audiences, and with community stakeholders in particular.
  • Superior interpersonal, multi-tasking, organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience with knowledge translation, including generating social media and website content, an asset.
  • High degree of computer literacy with ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, internet and electronic mail applications (on PC and Mac OS) at an intermediate level
  • Ability to take and transcribe accurate meeting minutes and follow up on action items with ease.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Attentive to detail, with the ability to work quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to exercise tact and discretion when handling sensitive and/or confidential matters.
