Detailed Overview
The Manager, Pharmacy Production Services is responsible for leading and coordinating the pharmacy operations at the assigned lower mainland Pharmacy Production Centre including managing resources, organizing workflow and maintaining quality assurance for a safe medication distribution system. The Manager works collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders and leaders in order to ensure efficiency of operations. The Manager also determines priorities and processes to carry out Lower Mainland Pharmacy Services (LMPS) initiatives, in collaboration with the Director, Pharmacy Services and the Regional Manager, Drug Distribution Systems & Production Services and in accordance with the goals, policies and vision of the LMPS.
Responsibilities
- Provides leadership and direction to the pharmacy production centre staff. Participates, with Pharmacy Leadership, in the planning and development of goals and objectives for the department ensuring consistency with Lower Mainland Pharmacy Services' strategic plan.
- Participates in the redesign and restructuring of systems, strategies, and processes pertaining to the delivery of pharmaceuticals to achieve maximum efficiency and quality while improving overall service delivery. Identifies efficiencies, and promotes optimal use of resources; recommends and implements current and future programs and service adjustments. Participates in the development of regional and departmental operational standards and monitors to ensure compliance.
- Participates in establishing fiscal priorities; develops and oversees the department's annual operating budget and capital equipment requests. Monitors expenditures, completes variance analyses and reporting and recommends and implements remedial action.
- Develops and implements quality improvement processes; ensures that appropriate quality and safety measures are in place and compatible with industry standards and accreditation bodies. Updates and maintains policies and procedures relating to the pharmacy production centre.
- Develops, implements and evaluates procedures for monitoring and distributing narcotics in specified regional areas of operation; ensures required legal records ae maintained according to established protocols.
- Selects, hires, directs, motivates, recognizes and evaluates staff to ensure effective performance of duties; disciplines and initiates staff terminations in accordance with the contractual obligations of the applicable collective agreement.
- Investigates and responds to complaints or grievances. Represents the department in third party venues.
- Implements current human resource standards and procedures, including performance evaluation, education and orientation as well as compliance with applicable acts, regulations and collective agreements.
- Identifies staff training needs, adjusts workloads and develops work routines and time schedules. Ensures that orientation and in-service education is provided to staff as needed. Provides for cooperative working relationships, staff development and healthy workplace initiatives in a continuous learning environment.
- Promotes and facilitates communication with internal and external stakeholders and leaders while keeping with customer service philosophy, mission statement, and good business practices; responds to and resolves problems.
- Monitors client satisfaction, reporting and management systems; identifies and follows-up on deficiencies in all service areas.
- Communicates information within the department, verbally or in writing, including circulation/distribution of minutes, memos. Promotes staff involvement in the making of recommendations.
- Monitors equipment and identifies needs. Prepares proposals for replacement and/or new purchases.
- Maintains statistical records of pharmacy operational activities, workload measurement, staffing patterns and financial data; recommends and implements action plans based on the records.
- Participates and represents Lower Mainland Pharmacy Services on various committees and task groups, both internal and external to the organization, as assigned.
- Participates in the development, implementation and negotiation of essential service contingency plans.
- Provides direction to students and develops and monitors administrative programs as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Current practicing registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia.
Five (5) years' recent, related experience in a medication-related complex health system including a minimum of two (2) years' in a supervisory capacity or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
