Compensation Range

$6,747.50 - $9,701.42 CAD Monthly

The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Summary
To assist with the planning, implementation and evaluation of the clinical component of undergraduate nursing courses; to educate students in a participatory, interactive and inclusive environment to develop competency and capacity for critical judgment, decision-making and mastery of entry level competencies within the broader context of comprehensive patient/client care.

Organizational Status
Collaborates with, works closely with and reports to the course leader and the Associate Director, Undergraduate Programs as required.

Work Performed

  • Actively participates in the teaching of nursing competencies in the nursing practice skills labs.
  • Supervision of a group of students in a simulation practice setting primarily focused on acute care
  • Assigns students to provide direct care to simulated patients/clients
  • Assesses student's initial skill level and identifies the need for teaching of new skills
  • Monitors and evaluates student's skill performance to ensure that accepted practice standards are maintained
  • Directs supervision, as appropriate, to direct patient care in a simulation setting
  • Attendance at orientation session(s) at simulation site will be necessary.
  • Assists course leaders with the theoretical component of nursing practice coursework, such as instructing students on skills and grading required papers.
  • Participates in team activities related to planning, implementation and evaluation of the nursing practice component of the undergraduate program.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


Consequence of Error/Judgement
Error in judgment would impact on the clinical performance of nursing students and safe care for patients; potentially sever critical opportunities for faculty and practice placement in various hospital and community agencies, and/or compromise the School s reputation.

Supervision Received
Works independently and interdependently in practice settings.

Supervision Given
Supervises and is responsible for students (normally 6; maximum 12) in the clinical areas; provides direct supervision of student performing skills.

Minimum Qualifications

Research Nurse: Registered Nurse with BCCNM plus three years of nursing and administrative experience. Clinical Associate and Nursing Practice Educator: Undergraduate degree in Nursing and Registered Nurse with BCCNM, plus at least two years of experience in a clinical position. Nurse Practitioner Clinical Associate: Postgraduate degree in Nursing and Registered Nurse with BCCNM, plus two years of experience in primary care NP practice or a combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nursing Practice Educator, Simulation: Canadian Certified Simulation Nurse Educator (CCSNE) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Education (CHSE), CHSE-Advanced (CHSE-A) Nursing Licensure in British Columbia, Masters Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Clinical Associates and Nursing Practice Educator: Strong clinical background in Adult Acute/Critical Care.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Teaching experience and/or a keen interest in teaching
