You are a Registered Nurse, experienced or new graduate, with a huge amount of compassion for the extra-special care required by pediatric patients and their families as they navigate through the journey of cancer care. What you'll do

  • Provides direct patient care by implementing the care plan, and collaborates with other members of the health care team to evaluate family-centered patient care in the particular setting.
  • Plans direct care for the patient by performing activities such as reviewing patient/family history, developing a care plan specific for the patient and family, and meeting with other members of the health care team to discuss and review the care plan.
  • Maintains patient records by collecting and documenting information including health care information regarding patients and their families, nursing observations, telephone communications, interventions, teaching, and care evaluations to ensure that patient records are current and complete.
  • Teaches patients, family members, or other care-givers by providing and explaining information, demonstrating procedures and use of equipment, checking the learners' use of procedures, techniques and equipment, and evaluating the overall effectiveness of the selected teaching methods.
  • Participates in the orientation and continuing education of nursing staff and students by preceptoring and mentoring.

What you bring

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • One year recent related experience in the designated clinical area and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

You will also have:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to relate effectively to children and their families and others.
  • Ability to function as an active member of multidisciplinary care team.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective CPR techniques
  • Ability to operate related equipment including applicable computer software.
  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
