Job Summary
The Research Assistant will assist the Principal Investigators (PIs) in carrying out research activities related to the Teen Selective Mutism study. Primary responsibilities include assisting with group delivery, data collection, management, and analysis.

Organizational Status
The research assistant reports to the study PIs, Dr. Rosalind Catchpole, Dr. Shira Segal, and Dr. Roberto Sassi.

Work Performed

  • Assisting senior researchers in facilitating treatment groups by running the group check-in, working with participants who require additional support completing activities, explaining the group homework, and generally serving as practice speaking partner for participants.

  • Organizing materials for weekly treatment groups

  • Administering and collecting outcome measures at each of the four study time points

  • Responsible for data collection, entry, and follow-up on missing data, as well as keeping the database organized

  • Assisting with ethics application by working alongside PIs to locate and complete forms and make revisions as directed

  • Writing literature reviews, pulling and organizing demographic data from group participants for analysis, and incorporating analyses and interpretations into the manuscript

  • Completing other related research and administrative duties as assigned.


Consequence of Error/Judgement
This individual will be responsible for managing and analyzing data and interacting with research participants in accordance with rules and regulations set out with the Research Ethics Board. Any errors in or misinterpretations of study documents could undermine the integrity of the projects and affect the quality of the data collected.

Supervision Received
This individual will receive work supervision from the PIs.

Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a university degree in Psychology or related discipline.

  • Prior clinical experience working with youth if interested in being involved with the group

  • Expertise with data management and statistical software programs (e.g., Excel, SPSS)

  • Ability to demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, initiative, and problem-solving

  • Solid interpersonal, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong ability to learn quickly and function proactively and independently
