RESEARCH ASSOCIATE - Department of Pediatrics

The UBC Department of Paediatrics, Division of Endocrinology, located at BC Children's Hospital, invites applications for a Research Associate to join the Live 5-2-1-0 initiative, a community-based participatory research program aimed at improving childhood health outcomes, including the prevention of obesity and Type 2 diabetes. The Research Associate will use advanced expertise in research methodologies, project management, and community engagement to support and advance the goals of this initiative and related research programs.

You will have a PhD and extensive experience in health research, community-based health promotion, or implementation science, with a focus on chronic disease prevention. Familiarity with initiatives like Live 5-2-1-0 or other public health campaigns is an asset, along with demonstrated excellence in research leadership, project management, and effective written and verbal communication to engage diverse stakeholders. As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Collaborate on the design and implementation of research projects that align with the goals of Live 5-2-1-0, focusing on community-based health promotion and Type 2 diabetes prevention.

  • Facilitate the operationalisation of Live 5-2-1-0 programs in partner communities, including developing implementation plans, supporting local coordinators, and building community capacity.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor evaluation frameworks to assess program effectiveness and health outcomes, including collecting and analysing data to inform evidence-based improvements.

  • Prepare grant applications and funding proposals to support Live 5-2-1-0 activities, including creating budgets, protocols, and supporting documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with ethical, institutional, and industry standards by contributing to the development of guidelines and standard operating procedures for research activities.

  • Monitor project milestones and budgets, ensuring timely and resource-efficient delivery of research goals.

  • Work closely with multi-sectoral partners, including community stakeholders, government agencies, and healthcare organizations, to foster collaboration and advance shared goals.

  • Prepare and disseminate knowledge translation materials, including progress reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and community-facing resources, to share findings and support program sustainability.

  • Supervise and mentor research staff and trainees involved in Live 5-2-1-0, providing guidance on program delivery, data collection, and evaluation methods.

  • Act as a liaison between the research team and community partners to ensure effective communication, problem-solving, and alignment with project goals.

  • Represent Live 5-2-1-0 in meetings, workshops, and conferences, showcasing the initiative's progress and impact.

This position will begin February 1st, 2025 This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) term appointment subject to annual renewal. The expected salary is $68,932 per annum and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
