Job Summary
A highly motivated and experienced Research Coordinator is required for a research project. The goal of this study is to generate knowledge that will inform the development and assessment of video resources to improve postpartum mental health literacy and help-seeking attitudes among racialized women living in British Columbia. The research coordinator will support the principal investigator (PI) and research team in executing studies efficiently and effectively. The research coordinator will be assigned to undertake a range of tasks including coordinating with the research team and collaborators, scheduling and coordinating research meetings, assisting in obtaining ethics approvals and amendments, developing recruitment materials, coordinating with participants for recruitment, inviting participants for data collection, coordinating and conducting focus group discussions /interviews and analysis, coordinating and assisting scoping review and synthesis activities, assisting in video content development, supervising and coordinating with research trainees for quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, assisting in knowledge translation activities, including manuscript and report writing and making conference presentations.


Organizational Status
This position reports to the Principal Investigator at UBC-Vancouver. As a key member of a research team, the Research Coordinator will work closely and collaboratively with the Principal Investigator, research team members, and community collaborators.

Work Performed

The candidate will work under the direction of Dr. Saima Hirani to undertake the following tasks:

  • Assists in organizing, executing, and overseeing research activities mentioned above.
  • Meets regularly with the supervisor to discuss the updates and progress of research assignments/tasks.
  • Tracks project's milestones, and ensure adherence to deadlines.
  • Coordinates research team meetings and maintains detailed records of project progress.
  • Coordinates and replies to project related correspondence with participants, research teams and collaborators.
  • Develops recruitment materials and leads participants' recruitment for the project.
  • Supervises and assists in knowledge synthesis (scoping review), data collection (quantitative and qualitative), data analysis, and content development for videos.
  • Coordinates and conducts focus group discussions /interviews.
  • Assists in writing ethics and grant applications.
  • Ensures compliance with ethical guidelines, funding agency requirements, and institutional policies.
  • Maintains data and accurate documentation.
  • Prepares knowledge translation materials, including reports and presentations, and contributes to manuscripts writing.
  • Supervises research trainees and works in cooperation with other members of the research team.
  • Carries out any other related duties if essential to the research activities of the supervisor and the project.


Consequence of Error/Judgement

  • Errors or incorrect decisions in accuracy, judgement, and communication could potentially result in delays in completing the project or seriously compromise the productivity and quality of the research.
  • Failure to seriously follow the project procedures will result in an inability to meet the deadlines and delay in completion of the project.
  • Failure to demonstrate professional and ethical performance could result in loss of credibility for the project, researcher, and the organization.

Supervision Received
The research coordinator will work under the minimum supervision of the Dr. Saima Hirani (PI). The post holder will be expected to work relatively independently with direction and guidance provided by the PI.

Supervision Given
The research coordinator may have supervisory responsibilities for the research trainees.

Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a relevant technical program or a university degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g. nursing, health sciences, psychology, sociology, public health).
  • Skills and experience in research coordination, project management and preferably publication experience.
  • Strong communications (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent in taking initiatives and ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Attention to details and ability to multitask.
  • Interviewing, transcription and data analysis.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently.
