Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient- centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

HSC is Manitoba's largest health facility, and is Manitoba's provincial tertiary center for trauma, transplants, burns, neurosciences, complex cancer care and pediatric care with Manitoba's first hospital-based heliport and the largest and busiest emergency departments in the province with over 115,000 visits per year.

This executive team member must maintain effective business relationships at the executive level, must model the behavioural standards of the organization as an executive member within the service area to whom all staff are accountable, and must sustainably manage the funds provided for all operating and capital investments in HSC Winnipeg.

The Chief Administration Officer, HSC Winnipeg will:

  • Work with other members of the Executive Team, under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer to administer the affairs and oversee the operation of the Health Sciences Centre.
  • As an HSC Executive, within the Programmatic structure at the Health Sciences Centre, the incumbent is responsible for the co-leadership with the other Executives, at the Health Sciences Centre.
  • As Chief Administrative Officer, the incumbent is responsible for the provision of such services as may be necessary to ensure the sound administration of the Health Sciences Centre. This includes direct responsibility for corporate services and non-clinical support services and shared responsibility (together with corporate Shared Health staff) for delivery of the integrated Provincial services. This also includes establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and communications with leadership, staff and agencies throughout Shared Health.

Experience

  • Minimum 10-years of progressive administrative, management and leadership experience in a related professional field in a healthcare setting.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Professional Accounting Designation and/or Master's Degree in an applicable field (e.g. Business or Health Care Administration).

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Active member in good standing of an associated regulatory body as appropriate.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated executive leadership capabilities. The provincial health system in Manitoba has adopted the LEADS in a Caring Environment framework.
  • Strong strategic leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability.
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
  • Experience working in a complex and fast-paced environment with strong people management skills and well-defined sense of diplomacy.
  • Represent the Chief Operating Officer and the Health Sciences Centre as required.
  • Accept delegated responsibilities from the Chief Operating Officer as required.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings, and to lift and carry items of up to approximately 10 kg.
  • Interruptions to respond to questions from executives, government representatives and partner organizations are common; dedicated and focused time for planning and concentration can be scheduled.
  • Must have a valid Manitoba driver's license and use of a personal motor vehicle for regular travel within the province.
