Building a community of hope since 1987, we would like to invite you to join our journey. Siloam Mission is currently seeking a permanent part-time Clothing & Hygiene Support Staff.

This position will utilize and work alongside assigned volunteers to maintain a well-stocked, organized, and clean clothing program and hygiene area, related to clothing donations and work in the free clothing store. Providing professional and proactive support to Community Members who access Siloam Missions Clothing and Hygiene program.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direct support for community members accessing Siloam Mission's Clothing/Hygiene services in a professional manner;
  • Respond and react to any emergency situations that may occur at the assigned workplace;
  • Train, coordinate and facilitate volunteer's performance of duties in the sorting area or clothing store;
  • Using Restorative Practices in the Drop-In to mediate conflicts as needed;
  • Supervising the hygiene program, suppling the hygiene items for the hygiene program to the community while ensuring the needs of the community are met;
  • Provide professional compassionate daily feedback and address any behavioural concerns with community members;
  • Incorporate a Housing-Focused approach and monitor the Behaviour Based approach;
  • Prepare and complete incident reports, daily logs and other documents while communicating with Clothing supervisor;
  • Maintain appropriate levels of clothing and personal hygiene items and communicate needs to appropriate departments;
  • Ensure that clothing donations are organized and store is stocked with appropriate clothing for the season to meet the needs of the community;
  • Engaging in other activities and projects as assigned by the Clothing Program Supervisor/Manager.

KNOWLEGE/SKILLS/BEHAVIOURS

  • Able to work with a diverse staff team and promote inclusion and cultural awareness in the workplace;
  • Good understanding of colonization and its impact on Indigenous peoples;
  • Certification in or demonstrated knowledge of NVCI, ASIST, First Aid, Mental Health First Aid training (MHFA) would be ideal;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Anti-Oppressive Practice and Trauma informed best practices;
  • Knowledge of community resources for homelessness, health, mental health and substance use, and harm reduction;
  • Knowledge of Housing First Principles and housing resources;
  • Ability to mitigate and respond to threats to safety and security of staff and community members;
  • Ability to work within a harm reduction framework;
  • Ability to communicate appropriate professional boundaries;
  • Abllity to lead a small team of volunteers;
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high pressure environment, and has strong ability to make quick decisions;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to form relationships,
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • MS Office and data entry skills.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Post secondary education in relevant social services or an equivalent relevant experience;
  • 1 - 2 years of experience working with diverse populations or similar work setting.

RELATIONSHIP

  • Works closely with Community Members, Volunteers, Donors, Shipping & Receiving and various departments of Siloam.

WORKING CONDITION

  • Work requires standing and walking over extended periods of time;
  • Periodically lifting of up to 50 lbs occasionally;
  • Hours vary and will be days, evenings and weekends;
  • Overtime will be offered when necessary;
  • Hazardous conditions could potentially include unpredictable or risky behaviours from community members.

Clear Vulnerable Sector Check and Clear Adult Abuse Registry Check will be required.
