Job Summary:

Under the leadership of the Chief of Research Administration and Operations, the Manager - Special Projects Genomics is a collaborative leader who will use their business, management and research experience and qualifications to support the efficient and effective operation of the Genomics laboratory, Shared Health Diagnostic Services and for efficient and effective collaboration between Shared Health Laboratory Services and CancerCare Manitoba as it relates to the Genomics and Bioinformatics Platform.

The Manager - Special Projects Genomics will work directly under the supervision of the Genomics Medical Director, Shared Health Diagnostic Services, and closely with the Shared Health and CCMB research managers, scientists and clinicians:

  • Manage business support functions and financial resources
  • Design improved and more efficient business and financial management processes
  • Engage staff, scientists, clinicians and other internal stakeholders to develop and improve processes to monitor quality standards as set by the scientific and technical staff
  • Engage staff, scientists, clinicians and other internal stakeholders to identify, develop, and promote change opportunities

Qualifications:

Required:

Education

  • Post secondary degree in Business (accounting/finance), Arts, Sciences or related from an accredited education institution preferred.

Experience

  • 5 years working in a health sciences environment with a strong laboratory or research connection.
  • 2 years of project management in a healthcare/life sciences/biotech setting.
  • 2 years experience planning and allocating resources, preparing budgets, and monitoring progress.

An appropriate equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience in operational planning, data-driven program evaluation, organizational management, policy and program development.
  • Demonstrated strong emotional intelligence, self-awareness, self-management and social awareness.
  • Ability to proactively build and maintain partnerships and to work with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must have strong facilitation skills, excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, analyze, problem-solve and apply knowledge and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft word, Excel, and PowerPoint required
  • Experience in leading project planning and change management.
  • Is creative, innovative, enthusiastic and respected.
  • Must be self-directed and work independently.

Preferred

  • Postgraduate degree in health sciences.
  • Professional or Project Management certification in a field related to the position.
  • Knowledge of laboratory medicine and/or genomics.
  • Knowledge of the corporate operations in a public-funded healthcare organization.

  • Must have a satisfactory employment record
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada
  • Ability to speak French is an asset

Required Licenses, Registrations, Designations

  • Active member in good standing of an associated regulatory body as appropriate.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings at multiple sites throughout the organization, and ability to lift and carry items.
