Position Overview

Reporting to the Manager of Centralized Intake, the incumbent will be responsible for intake and triage with children, youth and families experiencing mental health issues. Specific duties include receiving and screening requests for service, obtaining background information, systems consultation and determining service requirements. Establishes and maintains liaison both internally and with community resources and mental health service providers to ensure appropriate disposition of referrals.

Experience

  • 3 - 5 years' experience working with children, adolescents and families in the area of mental health.
  • Experience in the intake process will be considered an asset.
  • Experience working with diverse cultural groups is desirable.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Graduate from an approved program in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing, Master's of Social Work (MSW), Master's level counselling (MA Psych or MA Ed Psych).

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Staff not licensed/registered with a legislated professional body must be registered/certified with an appropriate Association.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent mental health issues.
  • Demonstrated skill in triage and assessment as well as the ability to provide consultation to a variety of systems and service providers.
  • Current and comprehensive knowledge of mental health services and community resources.
  • Experience working with children, youth and families in the area of addiction is an asset.
  • The ability to communicate in French is an asset.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
