Job Summary:

Our experienced team is committed to providing comprehensive radiation protection services and possesses the mandate of a regulatory role in the province. We deliver a wide range of radiation protection services encompassing ionizing and non-ionizing areas including radiotherapy, diagnostic radiology, radionuclide areas, industry and research and development activities and present teaching and training programs.

Reporting to the Head of Radiation Protection and Imaging Physics Medical Physics Department, the Radiation Protection Officer (RPO) will primarily contribute to the Health Physics support that CCMB provides to MB Health. The RPO will work with radioactive materials across healthcare and industry providing radiation safety and Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) compliance support. The RPO will work with ionizing radiation detection equipment and is expected to be familiar with contamination monitors and occupational and patient dosimeters.

There may be the opportunity to contribute to the work if the X-ray compliance team. The incumbent will follow established radiation safety and PHIA procedures and participate in emergency preparedness and response activities. This position requires a degree of flexibility in the scheduling of work hours and will require the incumbent to occasionally work non-conforming shift patterns.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduate of an approved Radiological Technology Program (Nuclear Medicine, Radiotherapy or Radiography) or university degree majoring in Physics or other directly related discipline as determined by CancerCare Manitoba
  • Minimum 3 years of practical experience in in radiation protection, exercising radiation protection principles, and handling radioactive materials (sealed and unsealed sources)
  • Proficient with MS Word/Excel/Outlook and internet use
  • Ability to perform physical activities, such as pushing and pulling of carts.
  • Ability to travel to other facilities up to 30% of the time.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 driver's license.
  • Must have a satisfactory employment record.
  • Must be able to legally work in Canada.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, customer service and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent English comprehension with both written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to stressful work situations.

Preferred:

  • University degree majoring in Physics or
  • Nuclear Medical Technology Certificate

Asset:

  • Familiar with CCMB protocols for handling radioactive materials
  • Knowledge of Radon
  • Experience working or volunteering in a healthcare environment.
  • Ability to speak French.
