Under the supervision of the Manager, Resident Experience, this position provides spiritual health services to assigned residents, and families at The Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre.

Performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (e.g. utilizing personal, protective equipment as per safe work procedures). Notify management or their designates (i.e. supervisors) of all accidents, injuries illnesses or safety or health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers, or any others who enter the premises.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Spiritual Health Practitioner is directly responsible to the Manager of Resident Experience for providing spiritual health services such as assessments, responding to referrals, providing spiritual Health programming, interventions, care conference summaries, etc. They will perform all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education in clinical pastoral/spiritual health, one CPE unit.
  • Member in good standing with Canadian Association of Spiritual Care (CASC)
  • Endorsement for lay ministry or ordination by a faith group is an asset.

SKILLS and EXPERIENCE

  • One year of satisfactory spiritual health experience in a health-care setting.
  • Worked as an interdisciplinary team member.
  • Provided education for staff.
  • Prepared written reports and correspondence.
  • Ensured Spiritual health needs of residents and families are met.
  • Actively participated in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Effectively demonstrated interpersonal skills
  • Maintained Confidentiality
  • Continuing education is evident.
  • Able to meet deadlines.

KNOWLEDGE

  • The spiritual needs of the sick, the elderly, the dying and their families.
  • Current spiritual care practices.
  • Able to meet the physical and mental requirements of the position.
  • An appreciation of, and sensitivity, to different faith traditions.
  • Proven interpersonal skills, including those necessary for spiritual care, and interdisciplinary relationships in a long term care setting.

This position is subject to a Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search, and an Adult Abuse Registry Check. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred.
