Men's Family Violence Program

Support Worker 1.0 EFT, Term Position until March 31st, 2026

The Support Worker will provide linkages and support to men impacted by family violence who are struggling to use the services offered within various systems. The type of services offered to these clients will be pragmatic and include accompanying men to appointments, advocating on their behalf when necessary, and being positive role models who encourage clients to live in abuse-free environments. The Support Worker will facilitate awareness of existing resources as well as provide support services where a gap exists, supporting clients in accessing legal, healthcare, housing, and social assistance resources, ensuring their rights and dignity are upheld. The Support Worker will work closely with Family Violence Counsellors and function as part of a diverse team using an empowering, strength-focused, and holistic approach. The Support Worker will be aware of, and manage various cultural, social, economic and transformation barriers that exist for their clients.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, post-secondary education in a related social services field is an asset.
  • An understanding of social work ethics and values is essential.
  • Experience working with individuals impacted by family violence or trauma, with a commitment to empowerment and strengths-based approaches.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care and principles of client-centered practice.
  • Knowledge of community resources, cultural diversity, and the social determinants of health.
  • Awareness of the dynamics of family violence and systemic inequities affecting marginalized populations.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Empathic, non-judgmental individual with strong advocacy skills.
  • Knowledge of diverse cultures and economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to work effectively with community members and various community partner agencies in multiple areas.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently within the community with little direct supervision.
  • Commitment to working with men towards positive change.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
