We are currently looking for an Agronomy Research Lab Technician located in Florenceville, NB.


About the role.

The Lab Technician is responsible for the daily execution of McCain's research program on the Research Farm located in Florenceville, NB. This position will be critical in unlocking new value of potato production practice changes and ensuring the new variety pipeline is aligned with long-term business goals. Ideal candidates will be self-motivated and have a good grasp of managing tasks involved with the planning and execution of research conducted on the farm. This position is located in Florenceville and will report directly to the Agronomy Manager - East.

Accountabilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Responsible for executing the daily activities on the McCain Research Farm in Florenceville, NB.
  • Assist Agronomy Research Specialist and the Variety development Technologist in planning and execution of all trials on the farm.
  • Assist in timely and accurate data collection for all projects.
  • Assist in coordination and execution of planting, in-season, harvest, post-harvest and grading activities.
  • Assist in final reporting of trial results with direction from the Agronomy Research Specialist.
  • Assist in executing major knowledge transfer events like the annual Research Farm Field Day.
  • Continually seek to improve the efficiency and capabilities of the research farm through new digital and physical tools to speed data collection and improve accuracy.
  • Be an engaged and energetic team member supporting fellow Agriculture team members and company objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Must be organized and able to conduct daily tasks on schedule, time management and prioritization are key skills.
  • Potato knowledge is helpful but not critical.
  • Strong computer and technology skills are needed.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural science is helpful but not critical.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • A strong bias towards workplace safety both for McCain employees and our grower partners.

Compensation Package: $22.68-$23.21 CAD hourly

The above reflects the target compensation range for the position at the time of posting. Hiring compensation will be determined based on experience, skill set, education/training, and other organizational needs.
