Horizon Health Network (Horizon) is seeking a strategic nursing leader to join our team as a Clinical Director for the Miramichi Regional Hospital. The ideal candidate will have experience in both nursing and clinical operations leadership.

Who you are

You have a worked in acute care or other clinical operations roles for a minimum of 5 to 8 years. You have experience in nursing care and subsequent leadership roles. You have a basic proficiency level in Microsoft Office applications. You are a high functioning collaborator, negotiator and decision maker. You have superior communication skills and proven methodologies with a wide variety of stakeholders and partners.

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing is required.
  • Master's degree (Master of Nursing, Business Administration, Public Administration, Health Services Management, or other relevant area of focus) is considered an asset.
  • Leadership certifications considered an asset
  • 8 to 10 years of relevant occupational experience related to the position and/or in leadership of health services.
  • 5 to 7 years of nursing related experience (front-line, leadership)
  • Excellent knowledge of the acute care service areas.
  • Proven experience in collaborating with physicians, clinicians, facility based support services, patients and families

Written and spoken competence in English is required at an advanced level.

What you will do

  • Makes executive decisions, daily, by encouraging and promoting mutual respect and teamwork between all services and departments within the facility.
  • Exercise, in collaboration with the employees under his/her supervision, the management functions related to the daily operations of the hospital:
    • Overall management of patient flow within the facility - in collaboration with the clinical leaders within the facility. Final patient placement authority is granted to this role.
    • As chief nursing leader in the facility, supports and collaborates on nursing practice improvements. Represents nursing on professional practice forums in the facility.
    • Directs and collaborates with the cross-functional teams within the institution for the delivery of care and clinical services.
    • Oversees the flow of patients to outside facilities, repatriation processes/agreements.
    • Is key clinical operations leader for space planning, facility improvements, overall facility management - in collaboration with the Facilities, Engineering and Property Management team.
  • Consults and submits recommendations concerning the hospital, with respect to actions related to overall organizational projects and strategies;
  • Assumes the role of Chair of the relevant facility/area communications forums.
  • Recommends and takes action, to the extent of his/her duties, to remove barriers and challenges (as they arise) and improve teamwork;
  • Supports front line teams through the implementation of communication and change management strategies to generate commitment through a bottom-up-top-down approach, in collaboration with nursing unit leadership.
  • Escalates, as appropriate, requests to the appropriate hierarchical level according to the complexity and scope of the requests.
  • Ensures a flow of information from the Horizon level to the local level and vice versa.
  • Follows up on non-clinical emergencies during working hours in collaboration with the on-call administrator (power outage, water leak, loss of water quality, etc.);
  • Supports local coordination of activities managed by volunteer services in the institution.
  • Supports local coordination of activities managed by the regional information technology sector with Service NB for processes surrounding supplies and services (laundry, store, computers, receipt of goods, etc.).
  • Supports local coordination of activities managed by the emergency measures sector.
  • Represents Horizon Health Network and the hospital in the community and is the link between community partners and the Network's senior management.
  • Directs questions to the right policy areas.
  • Participates in workplace committees to represent the administration (occupational health and safety, management, worker, etc.);
  • Participates in the development of operational plans, buildings or other when for its establishment
  • Supports local directors/managers in the management of local problem situations (human resources, spaces, etc.).
  • Assumes, within his/her area of competence, any other task entrusted by his/her immediate superiors.
