JOB PURPOSE
Provide nursing care to patients, within the scope of educational preparation, in collaboration with and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Expected to exercise judgement in accepting responsibility appropriate to job description and preparation and be accountable for own actions. Treat all patients with respect and dignity and adhere to the Values and Mission of Horizon Health Network.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current registration with ANBLPN.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrate initiative and good judgement.
- Demonstrated adherence to legislation and Health Authority confidentiality policy to ensure all patients, business, financial and employee information is accessed on a need-to-know basis.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts as assigned, including weekends and holidays.
- Willingness to participate in continuing education programs as provided.
- Current nursing experience in Medical nursing.
- Must be willing to rotate to other areas of hospital, if assigned.
- Current in CPR and recertified yearly.
- Ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
- Good work record.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Possesses the specialized knowledge and clinical skills/expertise necessary to provide care to acute medical patients.
- Work in other patient care areas as requested by nursing supervisor/manager.
- Obtain within 6 months of employment to the medical unit, and maintain thereafter, competency in the nursing care of patient requiring:
- BLS Certification
- CVAD Certification
- Others as become necessary
- Willing to participate in related allied duties which may be assigned from time to time as they become necessary to the operation of the hospital.
- Escort patients requiring ambulance transfer to another facility as requested.
- Assists in the development of unit specific objectives, policies, and procedures
- Aids in the development of and continuously evaluates effectiveness of individual nursing care plan.
- Engages in therapeutic relationships and helps support and guide patients/families in their recovery planning.
- Maintains knowledge of treatments, equipment and supplies pertinent to the service.
- Completes assigned duties as dictated by specific patient needs to ensure quality patient care.
- Aids in the completion of unit/program tasks
- Assists with educating patient/families
- Supports the preceptorship program
