Horizon Health Network in beautiful New Brunswick is looking for an Official Languages Advisor and Language Educator to join our team!
Horizon Health Network (Horizon) is seeking a motivated, energetic, and self-driven individual to join our team as an Official Languages Advisor and Language Educator. The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching languages in a way that is engaging and promotes learning in a safe, fun, and judgment-free environment. The ideal candidate will be creative in their ways of recruiting new learners and providing them with a learning experience that will keep them engaged. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills to foster good relationships with peers and offer guidance to other employees relating to the obligations under the Official Languages Act of New Brunswick.

Who you are
You possess a university degree in education, languages, or related field and have worked in one of these fields for a minimum of 5 years. You have experience in adult learning and can work autonomously when needed. You have a solid proficiency level in Microsoft Office applications and an ability to learn other software quickly. You are self-driven, have great interpersonal skills, and are comfortable working and engaging with others. The ideal candidate will also possess project management skills to assist the team in advancing its strategic initiatives.
Written and spoken competence in English and French is required at an advanced level.
A valid driver's licence and the ability to travel for work on occasion are required.
What you will do
Specific duties of the Official Languages Advisor and Language Educator for the Miramichi area shall include, but not be limited to the following:
- Provide French and English language tutoring and mentoring tailored to the specific and unique needs of the healthcare services environment, thereby supporting the formal language training programs already offered by Horizon's Learning Services team.
- Through cultural and linguistic activities, contribute to the promotion of Horizon's Official Languages policy in collaboration with colleagues in other Horizon areas and the Regional Director of Official Languages.
- Organize and facilitate cultural and linguistic awareness activities for the Health Authority's employees to foster closer relations between the two linguistic communities in a welcoming and reassuring environment.
- As required, collaborate with community partners to maximize the impact of organized activities, and bring the health authority closer to the community it serves.
- Access and make sound use of resources and cultural programming of the surrounding municipalities to accompany and support employees in their language learning, thereby bringing the two linguistic communities closer together.
- Participate in and lead activities and initiatives related to the implementation of the Official Languages Strategy Map.
- Investigate and respond to Official Languages complaints and concerns under the supervision of the Regional Director of Official Languages.
- Provide information and education sessions to staff and managers on the Official Languages Act and the active offer of services in both official languages.
- Provide managers with sound process improvement recommendations to help their departments provide quality services in both official languages.
- Oversee the activities of the Local Francophone Liaison subcommittee.
- Participate in the promotion of Horizon Health Network's Official Languages Policy.
- Gather and analyze various information and data pertaining to official languages complaints, inquiries, and other related topics.
- Any other related duties.
