Description

Case Worker ensures that all residents comply with the conditions of their parole and the rules and regulations of CJS Greenfield House. Assist residents with their gradual and successful community reintegration. Meet with clients bi-weekly and submit monthly reports to CSC regarding progress of case and "risk management" assessment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Quality control and management of procedures/directives and information given by Corrections Canada and Management.
  • Liaison: To keep open communications between administrative management of Centre and Corrections Canada of said procedures.
  • To continually develop a "risk management" structure and environment that is effective for the security and reintegration of offenders.
  • Write and submit professional, factual and detailed reports in timeline sequence of events and within deadline parameters.

The CRF must specify the qualifications required to staff to perform the respective duties and responsibilities of each position. The requirements for the selection of supervisors, case workers, outreach workers or similar positions must include:

  1. The ability to understand the dynamics of offender behaviour and assess their needs and risks.
  2. The skills to counsel offenders, form effective relationships and gain trust.
  3. The skills to understand the use of authority and to intervene effectively in crisis situations.
  4. The ability to assist offenders in identifying and solving the practical problems involved in their successful reintegration into the community.
  5. The ability to assist offenders in identifying and obtaining the community services required for their successful reintegration.
  6. Skills in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing; and
  7. The ability to demonstrate cultural competence and respect for diversity.

Characteristic Job Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the residents and oversee CJS Greenfield House as required.
  • Effectively intervene in a crisis situation and exercise good judgment.
  • Show interpersonal listening skills, sensitivity to and understanding of other's feelings.
  • Control accesses to CJS Greenfield House by ensuring doors are locked, unlocked and alarmed at appropriate times.
  • Knowledge of precautionary measures to be adhered to working with individuals with communicable diseases.
  • Supervisory ability while working with a variety of personalities.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions without constant supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Maintain a running log of all occurrences, routine and discrete, and report all unusual situations/incidences.
  • Make required rounds of CJS Greenfield House and document results as required.
  • Ensure all files and records are up to date.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of clients and/or property, including contacts with police.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of CJS Greenfield House at all times.
  • Inform Residential Services Manager of any required maintenance/repairs and report all unusual situations and incidences to the Case Management Supervisor.
  • Encourage an atmosphere of trust and respect while exercising control in the residence.
  • Adhere to The Salvation Army Computer Access, Code of Conduct, Workplace Violence, Territorial Abuse, Whistleblower, and Respect in the Workplace Policies.
  • Understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Case Management Supervisor.

Organizational Responsibilities:

  • Mandatory attendance at all staff meetings as required.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the facility at all times.
  • Assist in the upkeep of the House where applicable.
  • Practices all safety and sanitation rules and regulations, and observe personal hygiene.
  • Develops and maintains good interpersonal and communication skills and utilizes these skills in work with residents, visitors and other staff.
  • Maintains client confidentiality and respects the residents' right to privacy.

Health and Safety Responsibilities:

  • Maintains knowledge of current facility policies and procedures as stated in Correctional & Justice Services program manual, The Salvation Army "Communicable Disease Control," "Emergency Services Disaster" and working knowledge of "Fire & Safety."

Time and Place:

  • Location of work - CJS Greenfield House, 64 Gordon Street, Moncton N.B.
  • The work schedule will be prepared in advance whenever possible. Working hours will be determined based on the requirements on a week-to-week basis. Variations to this aspect of the job will be determined by the Executive Director.

Related and allied duties will be assigned from time to time as may become necessary to the operation of the facility.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Correctional Techniques Certificate and/or equivalent post-secondary training and experience providing support services to correctional clients.
  • Prior experience in a community based or other program in a social services setting supporting the reintegration of correctional clients back into community.
  • Skilled knowledge in conflict resolution/mediation, non-violent crisis intervention, and strengths-based intervention with diverse populations and stakeholders, including vulnerable marginalized populations.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Computer literate.
  • Ability to clearly and accurately communicate factual information/data and maintain records with legible penmanship.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Visual/sensory requirements: ability to focus on detail, objects and people when carrying out work activities; keen sense of observation.
  • Mental requirements: ability to use specialized training where conditions may cause anxiety, tension, some form of mental/emotional discomfort, verbal aggression and/or physical violence.
  • Ability to handle stress.
  • Ability to pass "Reliability Status" level of clearance as per CSC directive.
  • Bilingual or willingness to participate in further education in second language would be an asset.
