Who you are
The Business Manager position is responsible for the completion of non-clinical duties related to the Patient Care Services. This position will report directly to an Administrative Director within the Clinical Services Portfolio. To ensure a successful work environment, collaboration with other stakeholders is essential.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Business Administration or related discipline / background; 3-5 years in a managerial type position
• Demonstrated leadership and communication skills (oral and written), strong interpersonal skills and ability to act as a change agent
• Demonstrated problem solving, conflict resolution and time management skill
• Initiative, sound judgment and decision-making skills
• Ability to work both on a team and independently
• Physical capacity to carry out the work assigned
• Demonstrated adherence to relevant legislation including the Personal Health Information Privacy and Access Act to ensure all patient, business, financial and employee information is accessed on a need to know basis
• Patient safety is a critical aspect of quality healthcare
• Successful candidates must be accountable for creating a culture of safety,
working as a team, communicating effectively and responding to adverse events
• Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with a variety of health care providers, including nurses, physicians, managers and staff from other disciplines
• Excellent analytical skills with demonstrated ability to provide detailed reports and analysis as required
• Proficiency with Microsoft software programs
• Compliance with the Network's management philosophy and organizational values
• Compliance with Horizon Health Network's confidentiality policy
• Ability to attend work on a regular basis
• Ability to perform the duties of the position

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruitment and On-boarding of Staff
• In consultation with the Nurse Manager, prepares Itacit and Access requests for new positions and securing staff for unit vacancies.
• Collaborates with Talent Acquisition team to schedule interviews between potential candidates and the Manager
• Organizes the on boarding of all new staff including those staff transferring in from other units. Includes form completion, organizing and scheduling of orientations and ensures communication with pertinent stakeholders such as the NM
• Identifies posted positions with no successful applicants and elevates to the Talent Acquisition team as a hard to recruit position
• Actively participates in recruitment opportunities for new staff, supporting both the Nurse Manager and the Talent Acquisition team
• Organizes in collaboration with the Nurse Managers, Preceptorship and Clinical Placements for students Human Resources
• Engages employees in the Disability Management process to quickly and safely bring employees back to work. Completes all related forms and approves schedules for a successful return to work
• Responds to attendance management issues through meetings with staff, develops, in collaboration with the Nurse Manager, a shared plan which includes regular meetings with individual staff members to ensure a successful reduction in their sick time.
• Leads follow up attendance management meetings up to and including dismissal • Resolves in collaboration with the Nurse Managers and admin support, issues related to filling of vacant shifts and the many business processes defined by the Regional Staff Scheduling Center
• Monitors and provides data to Nurse Manager related to staff mandatory learning and program specific learning
• Monitors type and use of human resources and provides recommendations to achieve efficiencies while considering both short- and long-term implications of proposed changes
• Develops innovative solutions and strategies to issues where no precedent may exist Finance • Reviews and reconciles all changes to staff o Levelling o Public holidays, vacation, sick days, overtime o Verify professional designations annually and maintain attendance records;
• Reviews Plan of Establishments (POE) for responsible units and reports inconsistencies to Finance and Nurse Manager/ AD
• Analyze and evaluate budget variances on a monthly basis (sick days, overtime, etc.). Reconciles budget variances with the Nurse Manager and reports to AD
• Identifies budget pressures, in conjunction with the Nurse Manager and completes requests for enhancements as required
• Gathers metrics and provides information/recommendations to Nurse Manager/Administrative Director to support reduction or augmentation of programs
• Actively participates in the procurement/RFP process Quality and Safety Management
• Conducts incident analysis, identifies and implements changes as required
• Ensures unit Occupational Health and Safety inspections are completed and variances are followed up on
• Collaborate with managers and resources in various audits (handwashing, records, VDT, etc.) if possible
• Maintains and posts statistics as required by the program/department
• Participates in the development of project charters, as needed, and ensure follow-up with managers.
