JOB PURPOSE

To provide nursing care to patients under the direction and in collaboration with the Registered Nurse.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from an approved school for Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • Must be currently registered with the N.B. Association of Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • Geriatric focused.
  • Experience with geriatrics, Alzheimer's and other types of dementia patients.
  • Willing to complete any relevant advanced competency education or training.
  • May be required to float throughout other Health and Aging Units within St. Josephs.
  • Ability to function within the recognized scope of practice for LPN.
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrates initiative, good judgement and the ability to set priorities.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills.
  • High regard for confidentiality.
  • Relevant work experience as Licensed Practical Nurses within the past five years.
  • Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Good work record.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

Possesses the specialized nursing knowledge and clinical skills necessary to provide care and to supervise and instruct other in the care of geriatric patients.

  • Aids in the development of and continuously evaluates effectiveness of individual nursing care plans
  • Competency in nursing care of patient requiring:
    • Medication management
    • Assist with ADLs
    • Dressing changes
    • Diabetes management
    • Recreational Activities
  • Strong clinical assessment skills for geriatric patients
  • Acts as a patient advocate, promoting an environment conducive to open communication and professionalism
  • Maintains knowledge of treatments, equipment and supplies pertinent to the service
  • End of life care
  • Geriatric education as required
