About the Opportunity

The Community Infection Prevention Lead is an essential member of the Public Health Team. They are members who have demonstrated attainment of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of a Public Health Nurse, and have built an in-depth knowledge in Infection Prevention and how to apply this knowledge within the community setting.

As a member of the Public Health team, the Lead possesses advanced knowledge of Public Health practice and supports the development of practice in Public Health. They demonstrate a strong understanding of planning cycles, learning cycles, and quality improvement processes. The Lead helps to advance the skills and abilities of others within the Public Health team with respect to Infection Prevention knowledge and understanding.

Reporting to the Manager, Health Protection, Strategic Policy and Planning, the Community Infection Prevention Lead provides an expert level of advice to support and coordinate consistent and quality practice across the public health system and within the community setting with partners. The Program Lead provides advanced knowledge, leadership and coordination in the area of Infection Prevention. This position is responsible to work with the provincial Health Protection teams, zone Health Protection Teams and managers to strengthen skills, competencies and achievement amongst the public health workforces.

This position is a key support for consistent and quality practice across zones. The Lead supports the development of evidence, creates processes based on best practice related to Infection Prevention and the communicable disease and standards and protocols. The position works closely with public health staff, SPP leadership, other NSHA consultants and leaders, local stakeholders, system, and external partners to ensure consistent, effective outcomes in Health Protection

About You

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing and 3-5 years' relevant PH experience is required
  • Master's Degree (Nursing, Public Health, Information Technology, Adult Education) is an asset
  • Current registration (in good standing) with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN), or eligible
  • Leadership Development Education an asset or a willingness to complete
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Adult Education Training and expertise is an asset
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC®) from the Certification Board of Infection Control Board (CBIC) and maintain certification going forward is an asset
  • Formal training in Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) from an IPAC Canada endorsed program is an asset

A skill test may be included as part of the selection process.

Hours

  • Permanent / 100% FTE / 75 Hours Bi-weekly

Compensation and Benefits

$49.13 - $58.81 Hourly

$60.87 with 25 years RN experience
