About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Renal Program Manager, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible to function within their scope of practice to provide nursing care to assigned hemodialysis patients with defined health challenges and predictable outcomes. As the acuity or complexity increases and/or outcomes are not predictable, the LPN under the supervision of the Registered Nurse provides nursing interventions, within their scope of practice.


The LPN performs the following aspects of care for assigned patients; pre-dialysis, intra-dialysis and post-dialysis patient assessment, monitoring and evaluation; set-up, dismantling, operation and troubleshooting of hemodialysis equipment and collaborates with the Registered Nurse on changes/updates to the plan of care.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing required
  • Current BLS-C required
  • Hemodialysis experience required
    • If no applicants with the required Hemodialysis experience is successful, applicants with Med/Surg experience will be considered
  • Experience with IV therapy is preferred
  • Experience with needling AV fistulas and accessing central lines is preferred
  • Demonstrates strong observation and critical thinking skills
  • Basic computer skills are required
  • Ability to perform at full scope of practice
  • Ability to work in a highly technical area
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to perform duties that involve lifting, bending and stretching
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment
  • Competencies in other languages is an asset, French preferred

Compensation and Benefits

$31.74 - $35.81 hourly
$37.06 with 25 years of Licensed Practical Nursing experience.
