About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, the Psychologist is a member of the interdisciplinary team. The incumbent will collaborate with other members of the team while providing assessment, diagnosis, consultation, and psychotherapy. The ability to conduct both individual and group treatment is an asset.

The Clinical Psychologist will primarily provide psychological services to patients within the Psychiatric Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit but will also provide consultation, assessment, and treatment, as needed to the Forensic Assessment Correctional Treatment Unit, Transition Bungalow Program, and Community Program. Duties will include conducting comprehensive assessment of violence risk, personality, and cognitive skills in addition to other psychological assessments (e.g., neuropsychological screening), provision of treatment through both individual and group settings. Duties will also include participation in the predoctoral internship program and supervision of practicum students. Participation and testimony before the Criminal Code Review Board of Nova Scotia will be required.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Recognized MSc or PhD in Clinical Psychology from an accredited university program
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the NSBEP
  • A minimum of two years relevant clinical experience is preferred
  • Preference will be given to those individuals with violence risk assessment training/experience (including the VRAG-R; PCL-R-2; HCR-20-V3; and START) and those with experience in a forensic inpatient setting
  • Formal training and clinical experience in adult mental health
  • Formal training and clinical experience in conducting psychological and cognitive assessment and consultation
  • The successful candidate will also demonstrate maturity and a capacity to work effectively with resistant and sometimes challenging client groups
  • Experience and expertise in conducting structured clinical interviews and assessments
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in formulating and implementing treatment plans
  • Self directed in practice with an ability to work independently and as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team while dealing with challenging clinical situations and crises
  • Demonstrated ability and expertise in developing and presenting education programs to health care professionals and community organizations
  • Experience with the provision of clinical supervision to students from psychology and other mental health disciplines, and willingness to incorporate such responsibilities into work routine
  • Competencies in other languages is an asset, French preferred

Compensation and Incentives

Psychologist (Masters)

$37.31 - $49.05 Hourly

Candidate Registered (step 4): $43.52 Hourly

Masters Registered (steps 5-7): $45.27 - $49.05 Hourly

Psychologist (PhD)

$50.19 - $62.74 Hourly

Candidate Registered (step 3): $56.46 Hourly

Psychologist PhD (steps 4-5): $59.60 - $62.74 Hourly
