The Renal Associate Physician is a licensed (Associate Physician) physician employed by Nova Scotia Health to provide clinical care under the supervision of a fully licensed physician. This position is assigned to the Renal Program and provides medical care under direct supervision of the Associate Physician Program Director for the Renal Program and indirectly to the Executive Medical Director through the Central Zone Director, Medical Affairs. Participation in the call schedule may be required.
Clinical Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Associate Physician Program Director
Inpatient and outpatient care:
• Functions as a member of the team that provides ambulatory or outpatient care to individuals with end stage kidney disease receiving kidney replacement therapy at the Dartmouth General Hospital.
• This includes patients that receive hemodialysis at the Dartmouth Hemodialysis Unit that are admitted to an inpatient bed yet are stable enough to receive hemodialysis treatments in the ambulatory unit attached to the Dartmouth General Hospital.
• Liaises with nurses, attending staff and other members of the health care team in the development and implementation of the overall patient care plan.
• Flexible hours will be required to provide care to the dialysis patients that receive treatment on the evening hemodialysis shift.
• Performs procedures within the scope of his/her demonstrated competence and privileges and according to established policies or protocols.
• Arranges investigations and follow-up with an adequate action plan.
• Communicates with patients, families, referring, and family physicians concerning patient management plans.
• Organizes and coordinates transfer of care to other services within central zone and across the province.
• Participates in resident/medical student training and evaluation.
• Attends and contributes to educational sessions and rounds as time permits.
• Attends the morning program meetings for the Renal Program weekly and the Kidney Transplant Waitlist meeting if a Dartmouth hemodialysis patient is being discussed.
• May be asked to participate in on-call responsibilities of the service, which includes evenings and weekends.
• May be required to work at the HI site as operational demands require

$51.67 - $65.81 Hourly
